E4GUY I'm not the one to answer this as I'm in the same boat as you lol 😞 however be careful not to replace the gearbox before exhausting all other cheaper avenues lol. Good look mind 😉 Richie |

Time for me to 1. Replace a solenoid, 2. If it works, open a bottle of 'kick ass' lol. I will definitely let you all know next week, but a genuine thanks to all at this stage 👍😉 |

The ‘obvious’ culprit would be the EDS3 (yellow) solenoid which provides pressure to the end of the clutch valve C spool . However, the C clutch is also used in 2nd gear. Is the 1-2 shift okay?

Hi guys, it looks like the Mechatronic on Richies car may not have been replaced at all, hence the problem still being around. Granted that it seems very unlikely that they didn't replace it but hey, stranger things have happened (and I should know !!!).

Jeepers, I’d be pretty upset if I’d paid nearly £3k for a remanufactured transmission to find out that they’d taken the Mechatronic unit out of my old one and fitted it to the ‘new’ one.

Replacing the solenoids is a relatively easy job, I have done it a few times now while we were trying to figure out what was going on. Phil helped me out as well, got me some of his second hand parts while we were trying to figure out the problem and he got me some of the new parts as I couldn't get them in Nigeria.

Which is exactly what my auto gearbox specialist was suggesting to me, rebuild the gearbox and swap the Mechatronic over from the original gearbox to the "new" one. As this is an expensive part which I think (just for fun!) is electronically coded to the VIN so I guess you can see their logic. It's just that we now know (thanks to Phil) that this process is in fact replacing all of the parts which don't need replacing and retaining the faulty one.

Ahh, maybe there’s the clue. This certainly wasn’t the case with the 5-speeds where the transmission ECU stayed with the vehicle and wasn’t tied to the VIN anyway.

Ok then, the RR has been back in. A tech specialist with diagnostic tool has assessed through diagnostics and driving the car that the Mechatronic unit is corrupt after a previous owner had the engine remapped. After driving it he stated that there was an over rev between 3-4 and no hold on 5, this had been to engine remap fail to improve the power.
