When I was in Scotland one thing I did notice on both sides of the debate is how little faith and trust the had in their politicians.

For all you Islanders Twisted Evil for us your all "English". Smile

It is so funny, we learned the difference in feelings 12 years ago, when we arrived in France. For us (Dutch and French) your Island is called "England" and when we run into all these "English" living in France ( mainly elderly by the way) they learned us very quickly that they were NOT English but Scotts, Welch or whatever. They were really fussy about it. So now we know, but it still feels weird that people from the same country feel so strongly that their province or region does not belong to that country. But this "regionalism" might be the future, back to our roots, our "own" money, products, economy etc. and after that back to "tribalism" with your own colour of trousers or skirts Yawn ...have fun today

It's the truth everywhere but it's noticeably marked in Scotland.

Scotland

You have to remember that the name United Kingdom only refers to the political union of four separate countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

It's a bit like us thinking that France, Spain, Germany etc are all the same country because you are joined by land borders and are part of European Union...

I'm sure the French might take offence if we started to call you all German because you live in the Eurozone! '08 Audi S6 Avant 5.2 V10 with Milltek non-resonated. Vrrrrrrmmmmmph

The treaty of 1706? More as 300 years ago made your Island the United Kingdom, so it is acceptable that non Islanders see you all as English or Brits as one country.
The EU is very recent so it is not logical yet to call a German French or the other way around. I give s Censored about which nationality they think I am or have (well... I don't like to be thought of as a German though Wink ) and I really wouldn't mind if the EU internal borders would be completely cancelled and we would get rid of all these national politicians.
Same law and order, money, tax, etc.

You can call us all British but not English. Scots and Welsh are just not English and Scotland is not part of Englandshire.

+1 or getting rid of the borders. I've never really understood nationalism. As far as I'm concerned we're all human. Thumbs Up

^ +1.

British - Yes, English - no.

It's a a mistake commonly made by Yanks, which I can understand given their lack of history in their school curriculum. I would have thought however our European neighbours, and one time historical allies of Scotland (against the English), would at least try to understand rather than generalise and possibly offend. '08 Audi S6 Avant 5.2 V10 with Milltek non-resonated. Yeah, like the Brits are well familiar with Europe. Rolling Eyes

Many Brits think Switzerland and Sweden are near each other.

I don't think most English hate the Scots, we're just a bit bemused as to why you seem to hate us.

What annoys me are people who are English claiming they're not. If they have a distant relative who once visited Ireland for a weekend they claim they're Irish.
