I can see 3 good reasons to use a cage over the standard dog guard.

1: Keeps dog mess in back of boot area down to a minimum.
2: Allows safe removal of multiple dogs or even a single dog as when you open the boot they cannot just jump out.
3: Allows you to leave the boot open with the dogs locked in the cage.

Mine after a walk round Black Park , look how much room they have Whistle

Oh they now have a memory foam mattress going in there , as they are getting on a bit and the big fella has had two life saving major surgeries in the last seven weeks Crying or Very sad

Havnt received the bill yet , might have to go bankrupt as they are not insured and can't afford 2k a year to insure two dogs and not only that because of there age you not only have to pay the excess , you have to pay 20% of the cost of the bill = whats the point of having the insurance , living in scumsville doesn't help with the cost of the premiums tho Big Cry Big Cry Current : 4.2 S/C, now Sold Sad

Which reminds me of a funny story.

We were about to get our first puppy and had bought a dog cage to help house train him. However, the kids (4 and 6 at the time) thought it was a great game to go in the cage as a play den.

Anyway, I was running a £750mio deal for a FTSE 100 company. It needed a delicate conference call at the weekend to keep everything on track. I was leading the call with my lawyers, the client's lawyers and my syndicate bankers on the line - all very high powered.

My 4 yo boy ran into my study where I was holding the call and started going "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy!" very insistently. I stopped what I was saying and told the other participants that I just needed to deal with my son. Foolishly, I did not mute the line.

"What do you want mini-Emperor?" I asked.

"Daddy, can you lock me in the cage again, please?"

It took some explaining.

Oh my goodness, I would have loved to be part of the teleconf Smile

We are discussing dog cages as well, in case we decide to move back to New Zealand at the end of the year (I resigned). We will definitely get a dog again when we live there !!! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
