I am very frustrated after having the chain tensioner update kit from Range Rover installed in my 2011 SC. It is still making the same rattling noise. Now I am wondering if it is just an inherent sound for these engines? My wife has the 2008 SC with the Jag engine and hers is very quiet. Does anyone else have this noise or has anyone gone from a 2006-2009 to a 2010-2012 and noticed a difference? It was in the shop for 2 days with the entire front part of the engine coming off to install the kit and I shudder to have to go back thru it again. Thx in advance!! Mike

The 5.0sc is a bit "knocky" at idle especially when it's been restarted after a short stop. Other than that it is a very impressive engine. Mine has never made a noise I would describe as a rattle. Should've been old enough to know better...doh!

I think this has been covered, by RRUK (adam), and the conclusion was that the 5.0 sc is a noisier engine at idle due to it being a direct injection engine, these tend to have a more diesely sound at idle under low rev loads. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thx NMJ! yes, that was my thread below on this same subject where I was really compromised about having it done but then
reminded that the warranty covers it and had it done. I now am just going to live with it as this just seems to be the way this engine works.

Hehe, the Spawn of the Devil is definitely living under the bonnet of mine, guzzles drink by the copious gallon and can propel its body in a manner totally gobsmacking to other drivers!! Should've been old enough to know better...doh!
