Not seen that before...

Just had a weekend away in London with the in laws, went down in the ff and reset the trip when we left, have just got back and the average for the trip was 30.8mpg😳

Ok fair enough we weren't hammering down the motorway and just pottered down and back at 70, but still thats pretty good and bodes well for the trips to the continent.

Made swmbo drive back, as i was a bit off colour Whistle , which she did afer much complaning, she doesnt normally
Drive the ff, infact i think she has only done about 2 miles in it prior to this. So maybe this had something to do with the good consumption. At least i got a nap😜 and in the end she was fine, she did only have to pilot it from london gateway to our drive as city driving would have "stressed" her too much. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I managed to get 34mpg on the computer in our td6 on a trip to Kent and back.

The trick is to not be in a hurry!

I read some research a while ago which said that as a rule of thumb, fuel consumption at 70mph is much less than 80mph, especially in diesels where greater speed means the revs are higher and the turbo(s) start to get to work.

I thought it was just the green tree huggers having their moment but I've spoken to a fair few people who have said that fuel consumption is massively better when kept to 70. The progress between between 70 and 80 is ultimately negligible but the fuel usage in comparison is pretty significant!

I do think I'm getting old though. Some oik flew past me in his "slammed to the decks" Seat Leon today Rolling Eyes and rather than giving chase, I shook my head and mumbled that he "wouldn't get there any quicker". A sure sign of old age kicking in.... Sad 2006 4.2 SC

I think it also has a lot to do with the L322's lack of aerodynamics, and agree keeping the speed to 70 compared to 80 has a big affect when it comes to improving fuel consumption.

I think also that having the rear brakes stripped and filed out by the aa man might have helped the situation too, as now the pads can release easily.

But other than that yes, 70 does make a massive difference in consumption.

I am starting to drive "sensibly", excellent lane discipline, sticking to speed limits, which is a lot easier to do if you simply allow more time to get there😜. Why is everyone in such a hurry anyway? Im not anymore, but then again i am driving an armchair on wheels. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Going to see what the disco will do fully loaded down to le mans and back, leisurely drive down with the lads in; the disco, richtdv8's AB, a 1989 911 and a 993, so i will be taking a tow rope, though the past few years they have bought 1960's 911s and the have invariably suffered some mechanical incident Whistle requiring some minor spannering. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

When I read about the tow rope, I assumed that was to pull the Disco home......

I'm clearly not yet bought into the LR "quality" ethos...... Laughing
