Agreed - nothing more satisfying than seeing a bull "fighter" taking one on the chin by the bull . . . .

Funny how they don't spike the humans at the end isn't it ?

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

Never been a fan of bull fighting, not that I'm a veggy or anything, but don't agree with the cruelty of teasing the bull before killing it in a barbaric way with swords.

This is a young bull being trained for the arena. What you guys forget is that these bulls are living a free life in the fields, well fed, very well taken care of until they are approx 6 years old. Then they are butchered in the arena, yes a terrible death. But they are a lot better of as all those bulls growing fat in their very narrow boxes being slaughtered at 6 MONTHS if they are unlucky they get butchered the halal way. That takes them 10 minutes to die in an awful way. I have seen the great bullfighters in the big arenas when I was young and man they are brave. I have been in the village arenas where the young boys of the village show their bravery and those bulls were only 1 year old and not killed. But man they are huge and very quick. If you have not seen the Spanish corrida and men like Peralta and El cordobes in the 50 ies and 60ies you have missed something....and yes I love my dog and yes I am very implicated in wildlife preservation, but judging these people just because they play with a bull...when in The UK hunting is still very popular...12 men with guns against one deer....

That is right Kurt, but these man are doing nothing but playing, the only harm done is to them selves, and I am amazed that they are so easily judged and scaldet.

They're tormenting an animal, and this is the normal disgusting ending. Unbelievable this happens in 21st century Western Europe.

Everytime I'm supporting the bull.

So I might assume you do not eat T bones, lamb chops, steaks KFC etc. ? The life's of those animals we eat are a lot worse and a lot shorter. Never visited a hall where they fatten pigs, veal, chickens etc? Never seen the way they transport and slaughter them? That is the 21st century and the only thing I am saying is that this anger about bullfighting (which is absolutely a kind of medieval) is so hypocrite if you refuse to see how bad the animals are treated that we eat. Or should the lorry drivers and farmers and butchers should be spiked also? Have you protested against that? But then again I couldn't laugh when kadafi was lynched. I couldn't give a thumbs up when a video was posted in which a boy was killed by a mercedes and the mother cried out. These kind of discussions are great around the table, in writing they grow nasty. I will not react on this post again, have a nice day.

Only to appease your own mind Stan. Dead is dead and killing is killing. I think you'll find that's why we don't have the death penalty for murderers any more. All a bit hypocritical really telling people that the punishment for murder is murder, no?

Is bullfighting barbaric? Probably.
Is Grouse shooting any different? Ah, well, that's a bit awkward that one.

Both are killing for sport. Both are social events. And I suspect the Spanish might reasonably argue that we have no room to be critical quite frankly. I would agree with them as well.

Isn't the key word here: Suffering ?

There is so much condemnation of bull fighting because of the prolonged suffering in the exhaustion of the bull leading it's death. That's the crux of it, surely ? I find it particularly astounding that a body with such wide ranging legal powers as the EU hasn't tackled it - I suspect it's sitting in the bottom of the "Too Hard Tray" . . .

This thread is tripping over itself with too many massively different issues to address, I believe.
Robert is absolutely correct about the treatment of animals leading to slaughter. Personally, we get all our meat from a local butcher and I am absolutely sure the meat we buy is not treated in the same way as animals reported in the manner Robert mentions in his post. I will not buy meat from a supermarket for this very reason.

Killing animals for sport with a single shot is not the same as bull fighting.
Suffering is the key word, surely ?

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

Totally agree, killing an animal is not the issue, but making it suffer for nothing other than entertainment is not fair.

It is like shooting fish in a barrel and harks back the Roman colosseums with everything stacked against the animals/slaves/christians etc.

At least give the bull a fair match, with no safe zones or cloak for the matador, fight to the death and if the bull wins set it free.....or at least put it in a field with some cows he can enjoy until old age. Tom

Robert, I don't eat meat - haven't done for many years. I do eat fish and I do sometimes wear leather and don't mind other people eating meat.

I am pro animal welfare. I don't like intensive farming, animals should be kept and killed humanely. I am careful as much as I can to buy properly grown food where animals don't suffer. So I don't think I'm being a hypocrite.
