Hi all, Its my first post here. I'm from South Africa and currently drive a Disco 4. Owning a Range Rover has been a long time dream. I'm currently considering a MY14.5 S/C Vogue SE. What are the top factory options to consider? I'm thinking:

Active Rear Locking Differential
Heated Wood & Leather Steering
Soft Door Close
Adaptive Xenon Headlamps

hi ! the panoramic roof seems to be a must have option here in the U.K . 22inch wheels also very popular - I think the soft close doors are standard on the SE and auto.

I'm really pleased with my Vogue SE (TDV6). I wouldn't want to be without my:

- panoramic sunroof
- deployable side steps
- reverse traffic detection with blind spot monitor
- surround camera system

Other bits I have but perhaps not essential for you include:

- front fog lights
- roof rails
- wade sensing
- electrically deployable tow bar

- 22" rims - no, I will go for 21 " style 4 or 5
- panoramic sunroof - agreed, standard
- deployable side steps - agreed, dealer fitted
- reverse traffic detection with blind spot monitor - does it really help?
- surround camera system - don't agree, not used at all on my Disco 4 (except for rear camera which is standard)

I think traffic detection and surround cameras are certainly discretionary and depend on your driving circumstances:

Traffic detection - I've got used to this on BMWs and Mercs. Nothing substitutes for an over the shoulder glance on motorways etc but I appreciate the extra awareness in 'death valley' on the M62!

My wife and I got used to surround cameras on a recent off road driving course when they were indispensable - in UK our multi-storey car parks are all designed with spaces for micro cars so they come in useful there as well!

Joburg is generally easy to move around and even the carparks are OK IMHO, well Northcliff for sure.

I like your spec and unless you are doing serious offroading, and to be honest you are in the perfect country for it, then those cameras and wade sensor are quite handy. And if you want to go to Lesotho on that beautifully paved road those cameras can come in handy !!

Not sure how good traffic detection is, if it works it is handy in Joburg and surrounding IMHO.

I agree on the 21" as well.

Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Agree with your spec, plus electric tow-bar. Wouldn't be without my adaptive xenons either (now an option on UK cars!)

I have soft close and no passenger takes advantage and continue to close the doors in a firm (slam) manner. On a couple of occasions I have experienced releasing the door prior to getting out and having the system close the door again. While it is doing that you cannot override it. I will not spec it again.

Wade sensing, too late when you are in the river to find it is too deep! I use my car regularly off-road and the teaching that you get out and look ahead still applies.

Blind-spot and reverse detection monitoring. I own a company that designs and manufactures safety aids. We regularly see the result of expecting electronic systems to be right every time. Go to Topix and get a copy of the owners manual and read all the warnings about when the system might not warn you. Others have commented about the fact there is no substitute for your own eyes and awareness.

Panoramic roof - a must in UK for residual values. BUT the rake of the windscreen means that the driver and front seat passenger do not benefit from the feeling of sky above. If you regularly carry rear passengers it makes a difference. Maybe you have a chauffeur? However, I am wondering if the extra cost is reflected in the residual value. Would it make £1500 difference in 3 years time. If you are in a hot climate there is a lot of glass to let the sun shine through and heat the cabin, then you need the blind closed and the investment is lost.

Wish we could get a S/C Vogue over here!

whats the difference between the standard headlights and adaptive xenons ? I might add them to my spec for a tdv6 vogue - thx

Adaptive Xenons turn to follow the steering angle. They also have cornering lamps that really light up the inside of the corner too.

Just a thought... As far as I'm aware? (happy to be corrected here) in the UK if you order the deployable steps from factory they are around £800 but as a dealer fit option they are £3500+
