press auto and it should come up with a channel list, if it doesnt move to a different location....although your house might get digital via a roof aerial the FF needs a strong signal to work.. ... - .- -.

I'll check again but I wouldn't get static screen if it was connected properly..

Maybe I need booster aerials or something but surely I'd be getting a faint signal here and there..

As a test try connecting up to your house aerial (easier said than done!), then at least you will know if it is a signal problem or a tuner problem..... .

i still think that you should try and find a very strong signal area....the old analogue was different in that a weak signal could be picked up and you would get a fuzzy picture but you dont get that with digital ,its either received or not.. ... - .- -.

I don't have terrestrial tv in me home, only sky..
I'll give it a few more goes over the week end, will be driving down country so if I get even one chamnel then I'll know I need better aerial..

So I think I have figured out why the tuner won't work. Ireland uses mpeg4 for digital tv whereas uk uses mpeg2.

Wiggs pointed out to me few years back that changing the settings ie country and format will not make any difference for digital channels, it either picks them up or doesn't.

So either i just sell my digital tuner and get aftermarket one installed or look for hyrbid digital tuner from countries that use mpeg4 (did Landrover even make tuners mpeg4 compatible?)

It's surprising though that land rover would sell brand new car in ireland and the tv isn't even compatible.

I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong

i thought mpeg4 was for hd broadcasts and mpeg2 for sd broadcasts..

thinking outside the box ,have you tried selecting spain or belgium etc to see if that standard will show on yours... ... - .- -.

Countries that have adopted digital terrestrial recently may have a single MPEG4 based system for SD and HD, while countries with more established system may use MPEG2 for SD and MPEG4 for HD. There are also variations in middleware used. For example Italy, Ireland and the UK are all DVB-T regions, but Ireland uses "MPEG4 + MHEG5 + DVB-T" for both SD and HD transmissions, while the UK uses "MPEG2 + MHEG5 + DVB-T" for SD and "MPEG4 + MHEG5 + DVB-T2" for HDTV, and Italy uses MHP rather than MHEG5 middleware. Since all MPEG4-capable receivers can decode the MPEG2 codec and all DVB-T2 tuners are capable of tuning DVB-T signals, UK HD set-top boxes are compatible with both the UK SD system and Irish SD/HD system, but Irish SD/HD tuners will only work with the SD system used in the UK.


so it seems that your tuner ,being a UK one, will not receive Irish tv.. ... - .- -.

We use mpeg 4 for sd whereas uk use mpeg 4 for hd. I think uk will be catching up in few years and changing to mpeg4, but at the moment it causes a lot of trouble for us in ireland. Lot of tvs and digiboxes are bought from uk suppliers and people have been stung to find that the equipment won't work here

I have changed the settings etc and nothing. I'm v sad now .

So onto another question, will there be any problems if I just take out the tuner and leave the cables loose, or does there have to be a tuner installed for other things to work ?

apparently freeview HD tuners will work over in southern ireland [i think] but that doesnt help you unfortunately..

not sure whether taking the tuner out will affect the MOST ring , i sure someone more knowledgeable will confirm one way or other... ... - .- -.

if so you could get a 12volt Irish tv box with a/v output and plug it into the rse, stick in the rear cubby hole and use the FF's existing tv antenna.. changing channels would be a pain though.. ... - .- -.
