First post on FF so hello to all.

I picked up a used SDV8 on Saturday from Perth and drove it back to Manchester. Enjoying the car but wondering how to best use the Nav which is very different to my last car, an Audi Q7. In the Q7 I used the command dial to zoom in and out of the map easily but the RR has no such control. I don't think it is safe to press the screen while driving as i need to look at the screen and press several buttons to achieve the desired zoom level.

There are quite a few options with various split screens, auto zooms and voice commands. All seems a bit quirky at the moment.

So, how do you use yours?

I tend to set mine before I go, check it has the route I want, if not add waypoints to get it to go the way I want then leave it to it.

Sparingly. I tend to only use it for the last few miles anyway so the zoom is set to give me a decent view of how the local area looks at street level. Typically set to 1/4 of a mile on the zoom scale.

Assuming you have a reasonable sense of direction you will be able to get to most places on the major roads network from memory (a quick squizz at google maps beforehand) and use the nav for the bit from the motorway junction to your destination.

Otherwise it's a TomTom and there are a few who have done that too. If all else fails you have Google maps on the phone, again I have assumed you use a smartphone, not everyone does. And worth noting also is that I keep a road atlas in the seat pocket on the back of the passenger seat. Not used it in years but the second I bin it all the electronics will stop working.

Yep good point I fully agree, I have a UK and French atlas in the car all the time, nav is great but it's electrical and even with a phone it only works with signal

Thanks guys. I tried split screen with two different zoom settings but think i prefer the screen unsplit. However the auto zoom may take some getting used to. I've also mastered the voice commands 'navigation zoom level 4' etc.

What's a road atlas? I think my dad's got one of those

i know what you mean re the zooming in and out using the dial Paul, very easy to do and you dont have to take your eyes of the road to do it...
unfortunately on the FF you have to press the + or - icon to do this and its a bit awkward.. i havnt tried the voice function but i'm sure it will be easier.

as with all new nav systems it takes a while to get used to it.... ... - .- -.
