I have just ordered my fuel card as I now have been fortunate to secure a lovely 2010 5.0 S/C What a difference from the 4.2, no supercharger noise and just a rumble from the V8 as you take off. The 5.0 is more fuel efficient than the 4.2.....hmmm, the way it goes you are never going to stop using the loud pedal so forget that! That said, the 4.2 was a great car and these days is a really good value proposition for getting into the world of full fats.

This 5.0 car is the most refined I have ever owned and is a credit to the designers who constantly refined the L322 throughout it's life cycle to make it more reliable and also one of the most comfortable cars in the world. British built, Indian owned, someone got it horribly wrong there, as the UK has a thriving car manufacturing industry that is respected worldwide.

Cheers Rob, something I agree with you entirely. The L405 interior looks amazing, the fuel consumption is so much better and the car is so much lighter....but the L322 has a classic shape, is understated and refined and the L405, if I am am honest, the shape is pandering to community that likes bling. Or maybe I am an old git that doesn't move with times!

Anyway, quite happy with the new beast!

Totally agree Andy, the 5.0 SC is the bees knees in L322 guise. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Thanks very much for the positive comments guys and PLD118, the 4.2 is certainly not a poor relation. I got my first FF (the 4.2) from a dealer, that I subsequently found out has a dreadful reputation and the car spent a lot of time going back to them to fix the issues. Lesson learned there!

Once finally sorted though, I have had a great two years with the car. As with most people on the forum, we stick with the marque as they are amazing machines, whatever variant you have.

Andy, I'm genuinely curious on your fuel consumption comment.

How much better than the 4.2 is the 5.0?

My 4.2 gets 18mpg (calculated, not computer) driving into London and back every week day. I don't consider that bad for a SC.

Based on your experience, what difference have you noticed?

It's a very smart car Andy and maybe like Bellini, I'm curious and/or leaning towards, maybe! ... previous post was all tongue in cheek only. Empathise fully with your 4.2 dealership experience too.

Having only had the car a couple of days, I can't really gauge the fuel consumption yet versus the 4.2, but a lot will come down to driving style I guess. Try not putting your foot to the floor on this one is impossible! Yes Pete, stupid grins every time so far!

The quoted figures are just over 7% fuel saving over the 4.2, but you don't really buy this variant for economy  SDV8 AB MY 2019

Where as the 4.2 SC figures were 17mpg , the 5.0 litre boasts of 19mpg .... Think of the parties you could have with that saving .....
