[Wanted] Old Siemens car phone cradle

My 2003 car phone cradle is started to cause problems reading the sim card and was wondering if anyone had one lying around that they want to sell for a reasonable price.

Thanks James

Is that the same type as fitted to an 07 TDV8? (If I remember tomorrow will have a look to see), if so I don't use mine so you're welcome to it.

Actually thinking about it mine's a Nokia one so probably not the right thing...

Hi,

Thats very kind of you but I'm fairly sure the newer Nokia system will work with the older Non touchscreen BMW Entertainment system in my car.

James,

Any further thoughts on whether you're interested in it? I'm actually driving up to the Highlands on the bank holiday so had thought I could drop it off although we're likely to be going through your sort of area early (I mean really early) in the morning so probably easier to post if you do want it.

Regards
Ed

Hi Ed,

Sorry just noticed your post. That is a very kind offer but I'm afraid the Nokia will not fit my old car! Still cannot believe no one else has one lying about, I guess those that have replaced it have just binned the old one. I may strip it again and see if I can fix it, not so easy without knowing how it works as the card connectors are working ok as is the microswitch that detects the card and I cannot see any breaks in the flexi cable so it could be the circuit board soldering or similar. It just will not recognise that a card is in.

James

No worries,

If you post up a photo of the circuit board someone may be able to point out something from those if they're good enough quality (I may be able to being an electronics engineer).

Hi,

I managed to fix my old Siemens phone that was not reading the sim card. Basically I disembled the phone cradle (not the easiest) and did continuity checks on the flexi cable that runs to teh sim card connector. Right up at the solder points for the sim card reader, there was a crack in the flexi cable copper strip...scraped it back, fluxed and soldered it and bingo, all working as new!

Hope this helps others with similar issues. Very Happy

James
