L322 Refusing to start

So, I parked up my '03 TD6 Vogue at work for a 12 hour night shift, went to it at 6am to go home and it refused to start. It's turning over without any problem but simply refuses to fire up.

I called Green Flag who connected the car to their computer but no errors were found. My next step is to get the car lifted to my nearest LR service centre but wondered if you guys had any idea what the problem is likely to be and if their is anything I could do myself?

Not sure if it has any relevance but I had to have a new battery fitted a week ago, there were no issues apart from the car refused to unlock using the key fob on one occasion.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the same issue I had. No warning, drove fine, parked up at work, then came out and just turned over.

Was the in line fuel pump under the passenger side sill.

Take the cover off and give it a whack and it may spring into life and get you to a garage.

When the AA came out to mine, they took the pipes off the fuel filter under the bonnet, and proved no fuel was being pumped with ignition on.........

Now I'm totally puzzled.
Went out to check the fuel pump but thought I'd have another go at starting it... Cracked up first time!

Any ideas what's going on?

Strange. I didn't have that issue.

Not sure where that leaves you then, unless it's still the pump and it's only starting to fail.

Could be something else entirely then.....

I'd keep the tools in the car to get the pump cover off and a knocking tool, just in case...... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

That sounds more like a case of dodgy immobiliser not turning off properly. re-lock and then unlock the car will cycle the immobiliser. Just a thought.

I had been advised that it was probably the immobiliser so I'd done all the locking/unlocking stuff but it made no difference.
Guess I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen again.

Thanks for the help chaps Smile

Yep, had exactly the same issue, had it trailered to the mechanics and it started and drive normally when it got there. They did a voltage check on the pump and found that it was not at optimum leading to it being temperamental, so they replaced it and it was fine afterwards. Luckily not the in tank pump.

The lock and unlock the car trick is a common one as the immobiliser can stop the fuel being released to the injectors. Never had this problem on the RR but have done on previous other cars. Tom

Thanks again chaps.

It's going in to the garage tomorrow to have the air suspension sorted so I'll have them check the pump too.

The fuel pump is a very common issue on the TD6s and if you trawl the forum, you will see a lot of issues like you are having turn out to be the pump on its way out. If you are not certain the pump has been changed at any time, it is a pretty safe bet to have it replaced. Not sure if it is very expensive but I don't believe it is.

The problem is that the pump works on and off so it may be working for a bit and then give up for a while and all without warning. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Hi,

Had exactly the same issu on my 2004 TD6. Was the fuel pump, it did 3 times, the 4th never started again.

At least the car is sending you a warning message!

Total cost for me was 325€ here in Germany

Evening peeps,

Quick update: Since starting up as stated above the car has not missed a beat in the last 2 weeks. I took it to a franchised LR service centre the next day and explained the possible pump issue to the "Master Technician", he said he had not heard of the problem on the RR but knew it to be common on a Disco.
Anyway, they charged me £60 for a full diagnostics and valet on the vehicle, I came away happy that they hadn't found any major issues and now have a fully working air suspension which apparently only needed a fault clearing.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
