If things look better in the flesh just how bad were the drawings/pictures of the Evoque!!! There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

Modern design

Modern isn't necessarily the same thing as good though. In isolation it isn't a bad-looking car but it's derivative (both of the current Range Rovers and various other random stuff), and the pointless retention of the asymmetric tailgate but not glass seems as silly as the L405's gills and bonnet vent.

Also looks like a hippo from straight-on.

You see, the idea that there is an imperative to make a LR/RR look 'modern' is a non sequitur as far as I'm concerned... the brutalist form of L322 et al has always been timelessly modernist anyway...

RRs aside for a moment here though, as we're here to talk about the new Disco. Some on here presume to suggest that talking down the design of this new car is merely to represent a phobia of anything new or bold, but this simply is not the case. It isn't technophobia for sure, as it seems fair to say that most loved the new technologies on run-out L322s and indeed on the current Disco 4s. The design itself is a different matter, for it's the iconic uncompromising blockiness of the brand's design language that people love, and this new car simply does not agree with this language. Give this car ten years and the design will look terribly dated, much in the same way that the FL1 has been dated in recent years. Not so the L322, and to an extent the Disco 3/4 (although I accept that the D3 took some getting used to as it was almost too boxy to begin with. The latest facelift is terrible too!). I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions, but this is just my perspective...

2014 Range Rover Autobiography SDV6 Baltic Blue

My first thought was "thank god I didn't wait to replace my Discovery with one of these" now after a second viewing I think I might like it, I think it will be larger in the flesh, less like an Ewok and more like a FFRR. So I think it's a big Thumbs Up

Not too keen Evil or Very Mad I understand design has to move forward but I dislike the way Land Rover are 'piggy backing' everything off of the Evoque Censored Land Rover's vehicles always used to be so different in design and all elements were always extremely solid visually - they seem to be loosing this with each model they make.... Now: BMW 640d M Sport, Alpine White
Gone: Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue, Zambezi Silver, Charcoal Oxford Leather
Also: Mk1 Audi TT 1.8T Quattro, Brilliant Black
