England 2006 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Zambezi Silver

I have a 7 series as my hobby car but an old V8 E32 bought for £850.00. 21 years old and still plenty of power & comfort.

E38's share a lot with the early FFRRs but the E65/66s not the nicestest looking especially the first gen (smaller rear lights). I was considering an F01/02 when I purchased the FFRR but not keen on the repair costs on the diesels in any car.

Great value as you can get a used 7 for similar money to a used 3 or 5 because most people are scared by the perceived running costs although with care a £ need not cost much more to run than most mid range cars. Buying used depreciation is a massive benefit for the used buyers. Even if it is only worth scrap after 2 or 3 years you would probably loose less than on a new Mondeo. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

"Lovely cars, no doubt about that. The market is just not there though and whilst you should buy what you want for yourself I do think that it's wise to buy something that isn't going to be impossible to sell when you want out. As said already, people like to sit up high now and the overall image of these saloons is under pressure and heading to the next wave of "pub landlord" cars....."

Well, that was basically my plan with the FFRR. Here, folks aren't breaking down your door to buy second hand V8 luxury SUVs. Depreciation is a beautiful thing when buying. Not so much when selling... Big Cry

Is that not why there are so many 3 year old cars appearing on the market, after their 36 month contract hire expires? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Yep, but it's the wrong time of year to be selling a 4x4. A mate of mine works for WBAC.com and they are purposely taking £xxxk off RRs and the like as it's simply not on people's minds. Come October is a very different story...... 2006 4.2 SC

You can contract hire a brand new 7 series for £600 per month over 2 yrs. Doesn't make sense to BMW though as a 6 month old ex demo car is <£33k when it was £59k.
I have just bought a 2012 730LD fully loaded with 11k on the clock and I got 44k off the list price, it isn't even broken in!
Drives like a dream and can return 42mpg+ on runs, it is settling to 35mpg about town.

And therein lies some of the answer. Since the glory days for BMW it seems Audi have gained significant ground, probably overtaken them, well definitely if you look at overall popularity.

It's also the reason that residuals on Jag are so dreadful, especially the (Godawful) X-Type. Why on earth would you buy an X-Type whilst a 3-Series or A4 can be had?

Perception also has plenty to do with it. Compare the 730D with the equivalent year/mileage 530D. The 5 costs more because of perception about running costs etc.

The only car in the segment that seems to retain value is the S-Class, although all make very tempting ownership propositions after a few years….

I personally found the 7 Series a much ore involving drive than the A8, although the A8 is better built… 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE

Might be right re the drive, but I don't like being near the BMW dashes. Old and dull, like a tarted up 1980 3 series. Even the new ones. Maybe a bit harsh but you know what I mean... Graham

I buy that completely - the A8 is a very nice place to be…

I have run a few S-Class (W221) and been very impressed, although they still do not have the sense of occasion of the L322. 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE

£95,000 in the body of the advert as well. Nearly paying £1 for every mile it has covered. Also only a 3.0D would not even be worth that new with full options There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t
