Do any of you insure your caravan ? If so who with and does it cover theft and damage if say you have a bump while towing.

Is that not covered under the car's insurance?

No. You are insured to be towing but the trailer/ caravan is not insured.
The insurance is more for theft from the house or site

Yep. Mine's insured with The Caravan Club. Costs a couple of hundred quid a year but covers everything up to and including total loss, either through my own fault or someone else's.

You can choose whether (and how much) contents cover you want as well which is nice. Most insurers do this but when you consider than if the thing gets stolen you have to replace all the contents right down to the cutlery you would need at least 500 quid to do that, more if you keep the awning in the van like I do.

The other nice things about The CC are that they don't insist on a tracker and they also offer new for old replacement. Not the cheapest, but then quality rarely comes in at the lowest price.

Brian, it depends a lot on what you're covering, at what level and with what excesses.

For reference mines a 2012 Coachman Laser twin axle. New for old value replacement until it's 5 years old, about 27k ish.
Contents of £2000 to include Isabella awning.
Security is Alarm, Al-Ko Wheel locks (all 4 wheels), secure storage facility and £100 excess.

I pay £32 a month so it's on continuous renewal and I've never had to claim.

I do know the storage location makes a difference as most stolen vans are taken from driveways etc. Using a secure storage facility with a good reputation does help reduce the premium. I also have a Phantom tracker fitted but never renewed the subscription as it was £99 a year, or an extra £15 a year on the insurance premium to not have it active. I chose the cheaper option.

Basically, the more you can reduce their exposure to risk, the lower the premium gets. Standard insurance underwriting methods really.

bit cheaper than the Caravan Club I used them for years when I had the van, made a couple of claims never had a problem but if you want good service at a price I believe the Caravan Club is very good. Mine was a blue one!

I have been with safeguard (AKA Swinton) for my Caravan Insurance for the last 5 years.. They do new for old, and give discounts for nearly everything mentioned above.. I pay about £250 on a 2009 Bailey Senator Indianna.. I pay more as it is new for old and my model is no longer available.. I insure it as if I was to get the equivalent brand new Bailey that has replaced the one I have.. I wasn't aware of this until they mentioned it that if I claimed, I would be out of pocket unless I raised the caravan value to match what the replacement would be..

Caravan club for me too.

Can get many discounts on it too especially if you use the alko wheel locks and if the caravan has an alarm.

I pay about 350 a year on a 2010 twin axle lunar. Worth a little premium as the service is very good by all accounts. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
