Range Rover, A few little issues.

Hi Guys,

As you guys may know I recently purchased a 2003 Range Rover Vogue Commercial.

It's been going great and I've successfully de-blinged it. Photos will follow.

However, I'm having some bother.

1/
The turbo whistles and get's noisy if driven around town, stop start traffic and little revs. A good rev/ acceleration will clear it. Currently no performance issues.

2/ When Hot sometimes it will turn and turn and not start on the first attempt. On the second attempt it will start. Starts perfect when cold. This does not always happen when hot.

3/ There is a slight smell of diesel when hot on the outside of the car.

Any advice guys?

Has some chat about not hot starting. Fuel pump/crank sensor or injectors.

Not sure about diesel smell except leak from pump or tank. I suppose a good nose about and see what's wet?!?!

Can I don't know about the whistling turbo.

Ah It's moving which is a good thing!

I've had a few RRs and Land Rovers for that matter and there the only car which has ever left me on the side of a road, on multiple occasions for that matter.

One final thing which someone may or may not have an understanding of. The parking sensors only work when a trailer is plugged in. When it's plugged out one gets the ticking noise from all three expect the back right.
dodgy wiring?

The trailer wiring will disconnect the rear parking sensors hence, they work when plugged in... If one sensor (out of the eight, front & rear) stops working the whole system shuts down... NOT just the front or rears...

Hence why they work with the trailer plugged in Thumbs Up

50/50 chance of it being a sensor or the flimsy wiring Thumbs Up

Thanks.

Your right about it being the faulty sensors only at the rear. The front ones work.

However I thought about fixing it and then realised I'd have to remove the rear bumper. As It was nearing dark I left it. More than likely that is now the way it will stay. Until I get a burst of energy and tackle the job.

Hey Guys; Just to give you an update;

1. I replaced the turbo breather and another small filter which was beneath it. This cured the whistle and made the car more responsive. I also blanked off the EGR Valve. Great Job.

2.The hot starting issue turned out to be 4 duff injectors which had extremely high leak off results. We undertook the leak off test with bottles, however it showed limited issues. However, on the computer four injectos were shown to be faulty.

RR is running well. For now.

Anything else you guys recommend I do.
