TD6 to TDV8 Opinion

Fellow FFRR owners,

Had a call from my local stealer yesterday "recommending" that i now change my TD6 2005 to a newer TDV8 model.

Any opinions as to if it a major improvement ? MPG e.t.c.

I may be suspicious, but I'd ask "Why"...

I have actively put off changing my TD6 for a TDV8 because in a months time the new 4.4 TDV8 with the 8 speed box is coming out. This could lower the currently very high 2nd hand TDV8 prices as it'll become the 'old' engine and many will be part exing 3.6 TDV8s for the 4.4.

Personally, I can't see a valid reason to change the vehicle just before an updated model comes out and a new reg plate comes out. You'll be buying the current model just before it's changed.

So I'd wonder if they think they can sell you one just before it goes down in value because of market forces. Better you lose 5k in a month or two than them...

Just my 2p...


But I'm holding onto my TD6 for a bit longer. Smile
TDV8 used prices are currently higher than they have been for a few years.

PS. MPG is the same, it's just quieter and faster acceleration.

when the new 4.4 hits the shelf the 3.6 s/h values will take a significant dip, until now there has been no real incentive to change a perfectly good 3.6 TDV8. The dealer obviously has some over priced stock he wants to shift before the px vehicles come in against a new 4.4. There are also very good deals going against new old stock 3.6 at the moment...

the dealer phones the customer because its in his interests not yours - they are there to make money not do customers favours.

I hate BShit from dealers, I would rather they just came out with the truth and customers would respect them more!

Dealers are trying to clear their stocks to make way for the 4.4 and there are incentives on pre-reg 3.6ltr cars - that's the only reason I can see that they contacted you. Your dealer possibly is taking in a lot of 2-3 year old 3.6's against new 4.4's for Sept 1st reg and is looking to shift them on quickly as well. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Bare in mind that they are doing some good discounts to sell off the last of the newly registered (old 3.6) TDV8s before the new 4.4 comes out. So if you want one of them it could be worth it due to the hefty discounts.
It'll still be a 2010, just with a 0-60 of about 1 second less and will do a few MPG less than the new 2011 model.

But for buying one two or three years old I can only give my opinion above...

If the price is very good, go for it, as the Tdv8 is a true massive improvement on the td6.
The 4.4 will not be a major improvement on the 3.6. At least, not like td6 to tdv8.

Better MPG and it goes like a everyday car, you can overtake with confidence.... Laughing

If you are partexchanging then I would think any car taken in in the week after Sept1 will be valued lower than waiting until October - the dealers forecourts will be flooded with cars taken in part exchange for a couple of months after the plate change and they won't be wanting more used cars for their forecourts - unless you have an RRS TDv8 (I know you don't!) because suddenly there is huge demand for pre 2010MY cars now they have stopped production. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes
