Berkshire Land Rover bad experience

I sold my 2012 Vogue SE to Berkshire Land Rover or so I thought. I received a part payment then despite numerous promises of payment I received nothing. They sent a cheque that bounced then the alarm bells started ringing.

I contacted multiple people within Berkshire and on several occasions I was presented with electronic banking documentation to "prove" a payment was due the next day.

This documentation proved to be false. The documents had been falsified and I ultimately had to threaten them with bailiffs who would recover the car before payment was made months after they had took delivery.

I would highly recommend that you seriously consider not doing business with this company, you have been warned.

Moral of the story don't release the car until you have full payment which is cleared, be it to a private buyer or an approved dealer!

Not very good is it......

As I was reading, I thought you could simply pocket the part payment for your trouble. Didn't realise you'd let them have the car without payment in full.

One would imagine you'd be safe though, but lesson learned.

Has it suddenly got another owner on the log book now ? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Agree with Stryke, it would have got complicated if Berkshire LR went/was about to go insolvent and they had your car but hope it all got sorted for you in the end. MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"

I am wondering if they had a buyer lined up and were waiting to get money from them so as to not give you their own cash, if u see what I mean.... Very unprofessional what ever they were doing.
It's not easy though selling a 2012 unless it's back to a dealer. So I suppose you have to deal on their terms. Previously..

BERKSHIRE LAND ROVER

I see from their website that they are always looking for cars to SELL ON CONSIGNMENT. Perhaps they chose to think that they had your car to sell on consignment. However, they should have made this clear to you before you handed you car to them. If this was not made clear to you then your warning not to deal with them seems reasonable.

They did have a buyer lined up and they retrofitted RSE to it so this may have delayed the process if they were waiting for their money. I did get really good money but there is no excuse for knocking up a Barclays CHAPS payment, taking a screen shot, emailing it to me then cancelling the transaction, they also bounced a cheque on me!

I always fit my cars with telematics and this car had an older model in it that was not worth removing. I was just going to switch the sim off once the sale was complete. I knew where the car was at all times and we were 48 hours away from picking it up and taking it back!

Pretty dirty tricks from a main dealer. Especially when flying the landrover flag above the door. I wonder if a call to customer services would be worth a try? I know when our previous l322 was in at a main dealers for a replacement gearbox we where been messed around big time I think they had the car for 5-6 weeks. We had two evoques on order at the time. As soon as I spoke to customer services the car was ready within a week and there was no bill to pay upon collection. The difference between theory and reality is that in theory it will work.

Berkshire LR is not a main dealer, it describes itself as an independent. Either way this was a very unpleasant experience I am sure and it is good of you to reveal these circs so that others may avoid falling into the same trap.

Thats the very reason for the original post. I want to let other RR owners know about the experience I had so they can make an informed decision when choosing who to do business with in the future.
