I have standard towbar connections (twin sockets) and charging via the white one, although not recommended by C-tek works, just fine for me and of course has the advantage that you can leave the car locked up and if you like use the FBH before you disconnect it. Thumbs Up Geoff

The Ctek has to plug into the mains. Thumbs Up
If you have no mains available in your garage you could just plug a large 2nd battery into your car via the tow white socket to supplement the vehicle battery.
This simply increases the battery capacity of the battery(s) available to the car and so allows the batteries to "last" longer.

Or you could go the way of some members and use one of the Ctek DC-DC systems and a big solar panel on the back shelf or a split charge system and fit a good sized second battery in the boot. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Something like this
http://www.ctekchargers.co.uk/ctek-d250s.php

And possibly something like this if you want solar.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/13w-solar-briefcase-n00cx

But ideally a split charge system with battery in the rear is best long term.

+ this kind of battery

and then someone to install it.

The other option if your leaving your car a while is to just get the solar panel, fit an Accessory socket end to it, then just get the larger Bosch S5 020/ Varta I1 in the car as the main battery and your old one in the boot if it will fit Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

My CTEK arrived today - Thanks for the prompt! Thumbs Up

So, do you use "Normal" or "AGM"? I've read and re-read the manual and I'm not sure which my FFRR SC would have in it.

What's the opinion on this one? 2006 4.2 SC

I don't have an sc, but do have a genuine land rover battery in my td6.

I use the normal setting.

The agm is however suitable when recharging from freezing type temperatures with a normal battery, so ctek told me on the phone.

I have the Mxs 7 unit, which does not have the auto temperature compensation function like this unit does.

Suppose you'll have to look on the internet and see if the battery you have is agm or not, and use the setting accordingly.

Is it a land rover battery ? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Odds are that it's a standard battery and not AGM if it's the original one. Even a replacement is unlikely to be agm unless the owner that replaced it was feeling very flush! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

It's a standard OEM Land Rover 110AH with a Varta stamp on it as well - So "Normal" then. Thank you! 2006 4.2 SC

Same as my battery. I've not had an issue using the normal setting.

I've only needed to top it up so far, as the car doesn't go that far and I do watch TV in it.

Suppose I connect it once a month or so to make sure it's getting to full charge.

Just to be on the safe side...........
