Tow bar armature.

Looking to fit a tow bar to a 2011 FF, can anyone tell me if the armatures from other years fit?

Cheers.

From 2006 on, it changed due to the position of the flange. any after 2006 is ok.

You can fit the earlier type, I've just done it, swapped it from my 04 TD6 to TDV8 but the only difference is the exhaust brackets, if you can weld all you need to do is put 2 L shaped brackets onto the early armature. you can get the pattern from the Wesfalia bars which you have to take off.

Don't see the point in having to weld an extra part on when the newer armatures are cheaper than the 2002-2005 ones anyway, but I see your point if you have already got an earlier version.

I would have thought welding your own brackets on would be contrary to Towbar Type Approval Regulations ie

"In the U.K, with effect from 1st August 1998 all Passenger Carrying Vehicles up to 3500kgs Gross Vehicle Weight (M1 Vehicles) can only be fitted with European Type Approved towbars if the vehicle has received European Whole Vehicle Type Approval."

The brackets are only to locate the exhaust mounting and nothing to do with the integrity of the tow armature. The exhaust mounting changed from the TD6 to the TDV8 and hangs on the armature and that is the only difference between the two. They are both Westfalia tow brackets made for the Range Rover all the L322 chassis are the same.
You can probably get the new Westfalia tow bars for the same money or the later ones cheaper but if a used one comes up at reasonable money then don't dismiss it.

The exhaust brackets are 5mm plate L shaped 65mm each way x 40mm wide drilled twice and are located at the end of each Armature leg which bolts about 500mm up the chassis on on either side and the long mounting bolt passes through the armature frame and the exhaust bracket, if you don't want to tack weld it as on the TDV8 armature the bolt will hold it any way.
A close look at the two existing Westfalia brackets (not towing which are fitted as standard for the rear tow eye and transport anchors)which have to be removed will reveal the bracket design. Take care not to discard these brackets when you fit the new tow bar as if you ever want to remove it from the vehicle when you sell it you will have to replace these brackets.

Hope this clears any confusion.
