So is it just the case of paying £105 to get a personalised number plate off a car and holding it on retention , and when off the dvla assign another number to the car and it can get sold on ...( The Car that is )..... ====================================

Sounds about right to me, but for my last change I got a different "original" number back (same 57 year plate but different..no idea why. GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

That is usually where the first owner has a private plate so no plate is allocated. When it's removed DVLA will then assign a new random one. Otherwise DVLA will put the original plate back on wherever they can.... 2006 4.2 SC

Or find a cheap banger, transfer it onto that and keep the banger sorn until needed, cheaper than the retention fee every year the way scrap values are you could buy something for £150 and it would still be worth £150 in 2-3years time lol FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

That's an interesting option! So the transfer would be £80 instead of £105. Not that it should be a problem, just make sure the banger is older than the number plate (you can't make a car appear newer than it is).
