Depending on whether you want to stay in NYC for all 10 days you could easily drive down to Washington for day or two or even drive up the coast to Rhode Island and Boston. There is also an express train from Penn Station that goes from Washington to Boston and runs along the coast but not cheap.

Rej is right, DC is a must, but you'll spend 2 days just visiting its stunning museums (Smithsonian, etc). The thing is you'll probably see several in NYC already, so...

If you want to do a different kind of dinner and like a lively atmosphere try Beauty & Essex. Great restaurant and great food and lots of champagne for the ladies. If you want something more refined try Babbo in Greenwich village but book now as long waiting list.

Rockafella tower is well worth going up. Has some good history and a nice little shopping arcade in the bottom with a soup shop as well which was great for lunch when me and my lady went at this time last year.

Lot's of really good advice here, having been to NYC many times, main thing I would say is to pace yourself as you have plenty of time & don't want to spoil it by trying to do too much. Bring good walking shoes and book meals in advance when you can.

Went years ago pre 9/11 on a school art trip (and I didn't do art!) What seemed like a draw back was the fact we had to go to art museum's but there were okay actually gugenheim (spl? ) was a super building , make sure you're camera can have the flash off if you do go

Last time I was there was the May before 9/11, so a tad out of date, lots of good advice so far, a few odd sugestions, the real Pooh Bear and Piglet live in the New York childrens library, The Goog use to be free on a Tuesday eavning, Lie on the floor dead centre and look up, then take the lift to the top and see if you can find a real picture as you walk back down. cant remember which but one of the lower East side bridges is worth the walk across. Don't drive to Niagra, it took us all soding day and was described by Oscar Wilde as the second biggest disappointment in married life. letters not necessarily in the right order |

If there for 10 days may be worth getting a local mobile if you don't have one. I normally get anyone travelling with me a $20.00 and put $100 credit on it, cheaper than hotels or UK phones for calling back home and handy for boking resturants and generally keeping in touch. I get $100 credit as then valid for a year and cheaper calls, if you or someone you know is going back to the US you can use again and just top up or even sell when you get back to recover a few £. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t
