The 4.4 TDV8 is good with the 8 speed box but I don't think that much better than the 3.6.

You could do the reverse from me. Go from a TDV8 to a 5.0 SC (if you can find them, I couldn't). They go like stink on steroids |

I agree , this is coming from someone who has bought the sensible option and now has his awfull 4 mth old volvo xc60 on autotrader. stay with the FFRR swapping cars only cost money and nothing but nothing comes close to a RR. As soon as i can sell the volvo FFRR here we come. |

Why not get the SC (big saving over the TDV8) and then a mileage mule that does good MPG but is banger money and just flip it every 6months when you or mrs gets bored of it? That way your not really going to lose much money on one, and even better keep them for a year and buy with a years MOT and Tax and run it till they run out.
