Its nothing to do with society "these days" either, thieves and criminals have been around long before modern society evolved.
Not that long ago, stealing and pillaging were part of everyday life and in some cultures even respected and viewed as an honorable way of life.

Trouble is most things are locked up, I had a Land Rover 90 stolen, it was locked up and with additional locking as well....if its locked up don't touch....if its not, still don't touch, we're not living in the eighteen hundreds now.  If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

Not surprising Stan, have you seen how easily the headlamps come out...

Next door neighbour but one had his brand new company car stolen off the drive in daylight two weeks ago.. On a Saturday afternoon.. They got in through the garage door.. walked in through the kitchen into the living room and picked the keys up off a table.. Scary Sneak thief.... all his locks had to be changed as they took the house keys aswell..

I had a camera fitted a couple of years ago.. so they have stayed away from me... Touch wood...

But as a result of a programme on how easy it is to snap locks,, I changed mine..... not that expensive and if you have lost keys in the past... It pays to be on the safe side as you don't know where they end up.. PS The door is always locked day or night....

Sad we have to live like this...

We have had a few burglaries recently around here, people being broken into in the middle of the day, to be honest i think that having a simple yale on the door helps immensely, that way you can never leave the door unlocked....... As it locks behind you, and is always locked when you are in the house. Ok they aren't massively secure in their own right, but still better than a pvc or compsite door which need to be "locked".

Having fitted all manner of doors, i still think the best option is a hardwood door in a hardwood frame, with bs certified, 5
Lever mortice locks, interlocking hinges, and a yale! And for added protection when in at night, top and bottom thumbturn deadbolts! Composite doors are all well and good but imho not much better than the timber eqivalent. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Having been to a few houses that have been targeted for the sole purpose of stealing the car keys was at one before Christmas two day old 5 series touring fished the keys off the hall table with a rod through the letterbox.
One two weeks ago upvc French door snapped cylinder in they go alarm going off still hung around looking for the keys C63 AMG sitting on the drive local plod think maybe there after the car, this guy has already had a civic type r taken never found and twice tried to take an m3 csl.

On the door front having fitted hundreds of upvc doors more and more people are moving to composite doors these we are using split spindle locks on which at least when you close the door it will latch (like a Yale ) and you still need a key to get in better than leaving the door open, will deter a chancer but not a determined thief. Gone

the next logical evolution of car security, will be a key, and a 4 digit pincode. its really the only answer to the menace of key snatching. Yes, it will be annoying, but it will be easier as we get used to it etc.
it has been used before on citroens, it could be built into the steering wheel controls. just a look over the shoulder, as we already do at the cashpoint, and 1234, and off we go, till seat is vacated, thus traffic light carjackers, are also scuppered.
However, if you 'lift' to pass wind, you could stall at 70mph!
Apart form the determined carjackers, -that drag your kids out at gunpoint, it would be something in the right direction. .
