My neighbours 520d was stolen this morning at about 4.45am. I know this because I was fast asleep and my missus was up to have a shower and heard some noise outside but assumed it was the neighbour heading off to work as he frequently does at that time or so I'm told. We live in a quiet cul de sac with only 3 houses so they would have to have possibly tried my house also. Apparently my neighbours always leave their keys on a table just inside the door. They used a rod with a magnet and torch to reach through the letterbox and get the keys. First time it's happened since living here in almost 9 years. I will be wrestless now for a few weeks thinking that might come back for my fullfattrr. Unfortunately I have to park on the street but always have keys hidden and away from prying eyes. it seems this is the easiest way for them to steal cars nowadays, grab the keys and just drive off.

All our doors are left unlocked, I rely on the 2 Great Danes and the labs can't beat dogs as a deterrent to the opportunist |

If you have UPVC doors with just a standard barrel type lock fitted, without going into any detail on the forum (and i'm sure most of you already know about this anyway) a perp can get into your house in less than 30 seconds with very little noise / damage. I have tried this on a test house and even for a muppet like me, its very easy.
