the issue with the I Phone 5 battery may be hardware , but also could be unproper use of software , or system updates not done ...
before dumping it , go to genius bar in a apple store , or to a premuim apple reseller for check !! Jaybear

for what its worth, I turned off the Locational Services in my IP5, the battery life is now double what it was before. The Apps which use the Locational Services were on it constantly and draining the battery

Choice of phone and OS is very subjective, however this is why I'll never use a Blackberry.
The OS is not practical.
My wife had a top of range Blackberry for work on a business contract. Before we went to Europe for work she backed everything up on the laptop. The phone went kaput. The service provider would not replace the phone because we were in Europe. No problem we thought, just open the downloaded files on the laptop to retrieve all her information, files and work.
However unless the computer is connected to another Blackberry you cannot open and retrieve the files. The blackberry OS will only transfer the files to another blackberry. The blackberry OS would not even allow her to retrieve her info via the cloud. The cheapest blackberry we could source in Sicily was 299 euros. She had to buy it in order to retrieve her files.
What a useless OS.
With Apple, Android and Windows you can retrieve all of your info, files and work from the cloud without the phone if your phone busts.
Choose anything other than a Blackberry Big Cry Travelling around in circles again.

Make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar - they will usually do a complete replacement for something like £130 out of warranty - sometimes they even waive the charge & you just walk out with a new (well, refurbished) phone

All sorted , phone software was not somehow connecting up with the firmware , so it was either a new battery for £55 as they couldn't be sure or a refurbed phone for £209 , so settled for a refurbed phone .....

£209 Shocked that's gone up - I suppose it was an iPhome 4 when I broke mine, but that was the current model at the time....
