I know a few months back they were in a bit of a fix but just wondering if BB's were of any use as I have been offered one at a cheap price ====================================

I am not a fan, but use one for work. Much better for email than calling but does everything I need it to do, but did take some getting used to... 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE

If you do a lot of typing & like the hard keys then go for it - they are good for that - emails & texting, but IMHO waste of space for web browsing & apps

Yes nobody actually uses their phone to make calls nowadays, so two bean cans and a length of string would be the way forward. In the meantime stick the iphone (apple) and blackberry in a pie dish with some flaky pastry place in a medium temperature oven for 40 minutes and serve warm with lashings of custard...yum yum Thumbs Up

It's a Canadian company, so I invested. Big Cry
Would you buy a Saab or a Rover (car)? Nothing wrong with them, but you might not have a company around to support it in the future. Whistle The company's (tiny) (remaining) value is in the patents it owns, not in its phones.
If you work for MI6 or the CIA and absolutely require a non-hackable phone, then great. If not, there are lots of options around.

I wouldn't Mick. They won't be around much longer by all accounts unless they come up with a miracle.

The technology is old, the back end BES server for enterprise customers is notoriously picky to keeo working, AND they've got the brass neck to charge for it Laughing , and just about every company I know is moving away from it as a technology.

With new cross-platform mobile security platforms such as Afaria from SAP etc the advantage of having BES as the platform to be able to remotely wipe lost/stolen devices is not an advantage for Blackberry any more. That was always its major trump card which is now worthless in reality. Just about everything else (iPhone, Andriod & Windows phone) can do Exchange Activesync for enterprise email, POP3 or IMAP for Hotmail/Gmail etc

So, unless you need physical buttons for email, and assuming you're not wanting to get Blackberry Thumb ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BlackBerry_thumb ) then you'd be better off buying something else.

Dom.

Cheers Gents Thumbs Up

The main reason for asking was because the daughters Ip5 is faulty and the warranty was up a few weeks ago on it (typical) so I was going to bin that and give her my New ip5 and buy the BB coz I don't use a mobile much ...

Looks like a visit to the Apple shop today when she gets home from school Rolling Eyes ====================================

Can you not mend it mick?

They are relatively fixable. If you are binning it, any chance i can have ago at it? Just stripped my mrs' ip4 and rebuilt but havent done a 5 yet and would like a go on a knackered one before i have a go at swapping the screen on mine.

I have been with Blackberry from the beginning and was a massive fan. I have Q10 and its a major improvement on previous models. I believe that they are much better for email than android phones which is why I went that way originally. However, I am increasingly frustrated by its web browsing capability and other app functions and when I see my wife on here Samsung S4 I have to admit to being a bit jealous. I think I will go Samsung next time as the email functions seems to work very well and the screen and resolution is truly amazing.

Mick, my wife dropped her Galaxy Note2 just before we headed out here to Dubai. Shop in Gt Western Road called iClick replaced the whole front assembly the same day for a very good price. Might be worth a phone call to get a quote before biting the bullet on a new one? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

It is more battery problems than anything else

She can charge it overnight to a 100% use the phone for about half an hour on the train to school by the time she gets to school (5 mins by Taxi) the battery is down to 15% then it switches itself off , 5 mins later switches itself back on and the battery shows 70% and it keeps doing this all day ..... Weird ====================================
