I'm way too slow for the games Contra, I was at the velodrome this morning and a mate was there, he's trying to qualify for the games and was putting in 17 second laps where the best I can achieve is 21 seconds...I might try for the tortoise race if that comes to the Commonwealth Games

1 full year today since getting back into the saddle.

My cycle on 12th March 2013 was a grand total of 2.8 miles which, by the end of it left me feeling like my lungs were about to explode.
Since then my longest ride was 112 miles, most elevation 5300 feet, my total for the last 12 months is 3588 miles with 153,500 feet of elevation.

So today I decided that we are far enough out of the depths of Scottish winters to allow the safe remove of said mudguards and flip the wheel to fixed mode for the occasional spring outing. Just need to remember to keep the legs turning and see how I get on with it. I ride the Velodrome every week so its not as if I'm not used to fixed gears, just not used to fixed gears on the roads

Sunday I plan cycling my first century of the year, the route is only about 82 miles but I'm going to park the car 10 miles from the start so that I get the extra 20 miles in :lol:

Well Ive done the bat fastard on the bike going slow, the binny skastard on the bike going even slower so whatever next in my quest to cycle faster than the speed of a snail

Well it's obvious, I lost weight and my speed never went up accordingly so it must be the bikes fault. Time to loose some weight on the bike then and one of the quickest ways to loose 150 grammes is to remove the saddle and fit a razor blade

This lethal implement of torture arrived in the post today and when I first looked at it my bum cheeks tightened up as in a similar fashion akin to ones jaws after sucking a lemon

I expected it to look hard, but I didn't expect it to look as hard as Vito Corleone

The plan was to keep it until after Sunday as I have a 100 mile cycle to do and the bike the razor blade is intended for is the bike I plan using for Sunday's route. However curiosity won and I swapped it over just to see how it looked. A quick spin round the garden proved to me it's slippier than a slippy thing, care required when mounting I fear

I nipped out and did a quick 11 miles on the razor blade, it was my first time out on this bike since last September and the saddle...well the saddle is perfectly comfortable, no aches or pains, no chaffing on the legs, all in all much better than I could have ever imagined.

I'm not completely bonkers though and realise I will have to go a bit further than 11 miles before I'm convinced it isn't going to kill me, so I think for Sunday the Prologo will be going back on. If I get a chance over the next few days I will try it again for a longer period of time.

Cycled the Evans Scotland sportive today, 82 miles, but that wasn't enough so I parked 9 miles from the start and cycled in, done my 82 miles and cycled 9 miles back to the car giving me a total of 100.3 miles and over 6000 feet of elevation...Enough to complete my Strava Gran Fondo 3 challenge

Plenty snow on the mountains to keep us freezing

The carbon saddle is a hard shell but apparently does flex ever so slightly when sitting on it, not that I have felt any flexing of my butt cheeks

N+1 yet again

Decided I wanted a fixed wheel to try, I've flipped the wheel on the single speed a couple of times to fixed but only for a short duration so never really got the hang of riding fixed. Then I saw this track bike come up for sale and decided to bite the bullet, it's taken me a week to sort it out and today was my first ride on it. Completely different to riding fixed gear at the velodrome and not something I would recommend you try out on the open roads before getting lots of car park practise.

Only one (front) brake required on fixed gear bikes
