Remote Keys Stopped Working

My remote key stopped working yesterday.

I original though that maybe the battery was bad so tried the spare key and same. Lights flash on the key when a button is pressed but nothng happens (lock or unlock). Keys both open the doors and start the car.

Tried to reprogramme but makes no difference.

Any ideas? There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

Forgot to mention it is a three button key with an exposed blade. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

Can anyone tell me where the receiver or module for the remote is in the FF. Also is there a fuse anywhere that could affect the remote operation.

May be coincidence but stopped working after I had removed the rear spoiler to fit a new wiper arm and check the re wiper motor for leak. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

Hi Rej - sorry for the delay but been away for a bit

I am guessing from the lack of responses this is not a common problem but I am having the same issue (albeit on a MY07 - and note comments below are for my car). I've had a garage have a quick look and they can identify an intermittent fault with the receiver in the system. I am going to send it back to them to fix and will happily post the results if you're interested (but not sure when that will be).

From what I can gather the system uses an antenna in the rear window and a receiver within the headlining at the rear of the car roughly in the middle (with an amplifier between the two, presumably also at the rear of the car). Unlocking the car etc is actually controlled by the GEM which is under the passenger seat.

I guess it's possible you've done some damage by playing with the rear screen.

Thanks for the reply. Would be interested to know what is involved in your fix when done.

I can lock and unlock the car using the key so more annoying than critical and while I am happy to let my normal garage fix they are not RR specialists so if not something I can just replace would be good to know where to point them. My garage is fine with the mechanical bits and normal servicing but not as sure about the added goodies.

If I get a chance I will take the spoiler off again and see if I can see anything that had come disconnected. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

Cool - you're not far from me so I will pm you the details of the garage I use (bulk buy... Wink ) - won't post here for fear of abusing the forum rules.

Exactly the same symptoms - can open using the mechanical key, car starts etc it's just opening with the remote that doesn't work.

have you tried re-sync your key.. the receiver is located under the rear spoiler next to the wiper arm. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Daveo,

I have tried resyncing using the instructions I found on here, turn to pos ! and off in 5 secs, hold open button and press lock button 3 times while holding unlock button in 15 secs.

Are these the correct instructions for my 06MY with the BMW style Key? There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

Thanks, PM sent, maybe get them to look at my handsfree as no suggestions received as to what could be causing it to sound like I am making a phone call in the shower. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t
