Actually the 7 degrees thing is the average temperature for the day. For most tyres there is a cross over point where between 10-15 degrees there's no difference between the compounds (tread not taken into consideration) used for summer and winter tyres. Even in the summer months a premium winter tyre will stop better than a budget summer tyre. This is usually down to the casing and tread patterns rather than the silica content.

Didn't know that. Thanks Thumbs Up

Really ? What's your source ? I was told the opposite by Vredestein before I bought mine - they said 7 degrees so think about the time of day you're travelling - so if commuting you're likely to be driving in colder temperatures. Below 7 and winter tyres excel, between 7 & 15 or so it's close and above 15 you're better off with summers.

I prefer my diamond cut wheels & they are shod with summers, so I tend to swap back once i'm sure there's no more salt likely to be on the roads.

Good job I've got premium summer tyres then Thumbs Up

I can't see there being too many people who fork out for winters, then skimp in the summer.....

Trolley jack and axle stands all ready to go for the change. Could someone help with one question though. I've researched where to lift the car with the jack, but could someone please point me in the right direction of where the axle stand should properly be positioned.

Thanks.

That was more of a general info rather than anything else.

As for the average temperature 7 degrees that I mentioned, thats for when to change your tyres, not the temp that the tyres out-perform summer tyres. It's a subtle difference really as the reality of it is that for the parts of the year where we an average temp of 7 degrees (Nov - March) also coincide with the days where we have the smallest temperature differentials which on average around 50% increase in temp during the day vs night, compared to spring / autumn where it can vary up to 400%.
