5.0 s/c first day of driving

In picked up my s/c yesterday and done a hundred and odd miles so far. Here are my initial thoughts after coming from a 2010 s/c.

Good:

Performance significantly better through I guess combination of less weight and 8 speed gearbox.
Quieter
No roll from suspension and more direct steering makes for BMW like handling
Slows much easier when on the brakes and doesn't feel like you are slowing down a truck like the l322 did
Gearbox much better
Seats (style 24) more comfortable due to greater range of adjustment but see below.
Fuel consumption 22mpg compared to 18mpg (2010) on a mixed run.
Looks. I really like it inside and out.

Bad:

Low battery warning all the time even though my CTEK charger thinks it's fully charged.
I seem to have the suspension knock that everyone talks about when you hit holes or bumps.
Leather is very slippery and seems of a lower quality than my 2010.
Seats much harder (maybe due to the leather)
Can't get a position on the seat which combines max height and have my arms stretched out to the steering (feels less roomy)
No dial to alter the face level air vents temperature
Infotainment screen very slow to respond to inputs.

Overall I really like it but it's not perfect.

You need to get the updates done to the battery control module and the infotainment, that should solve the issues for them.

As for the leather, i'd get it really well cleaned and gliptone it and see if it helps soften the leather up, may just need some wear to get it goin. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

My seats seemed firm for the first 2k miles , leather soon becomes more supple IMO ,

Seat height to slope angle yes tend to agree. Thump on front welcome Sad

battery not had that problem at all on either car. Sounds like battery has not had a full charge at PDI to me so regulator will think its full or not full as it does not know where the level is , maybe a dealer reset on that.

Heater vent not really noticed that one.

Screen / info yup i agree slow even after updates , even with the 13.5 MY on twin can bus which did make it better still slow to react ( i have all the latest updates up to end Feb 2014 )

"Looks. I really like it inside and out." Totally agree parked next to the old one it looks bang on. ( think the climate system should have had more direct access via the dash rather than via screen. ) Rear not 100% IMO but close and to get rear spilt tail gate cannot see how it could have been that different to be honest.

You will still find there will be recall / service actions that may well need doing that will even go back to 2-3 months prior to delivery as the factory seem unable to make the cars with the latest updates and parts which i think is just crazy.

My only worry is rattles and squeaks on the new cars a little worried what they will be like at 30K miles for example.

Overall the car is a massive step forward on L322 but is also a very different drive to the old one as is my RRS again very much a diff car to the old one but that was more expected with the old RRS being the Disco in drag. Far to many gone...

front heater vent adjustment is a BMW patented feature, so won't appear on any new models.

Two days of ownership and 120 miles and it's back in the shop. I was due to take it in this morning to have the Low Battery warning issue and suspension knocking looked at. The battery issue miraculously righted itself Rolling Eyes but the service guy acknowledged the knock after just driving in the car park. It is now in the service for an unspecified duration. I am now driving a 3.0 diesel AB. It reminds me of a D3 loaner I had when a few years ago, press the accelerator and not much happens from rest then you push harder hit the floor and suddenly leap forward as the turbo kicks in, not exactly a comfortable or confidence inspiring way to drive. It is also very noisy.

Sad

The knock will either be air in the ARC or the ARC it's self i would think , do you feel it through the floor ?

The low battery , more than likely they did a PDI left everything turned on and never charged the battery ! or they did not do the PDI correctly of course.

Yup 3.0 is a real let down compared to the SDv8 or the 5.0SC Far to many gone...

So they are going to start with replacing the suspension bushes and dampers and see what happens. Can't say I am too optimistic based on what I have read here. If the car gets damaged in the process or while sitting in the car park waiting I shall reject it.

No I don't feel it as such, just hear it. It actually sounds like a knocking noise I also have on my Lamborghini LP560 which supposedly is the shock absorbers and is normal and they all do it Rolling Eyes

Sounds like the 3.0 sdv6 has the same issue the 2010/11 discos had. An update to the engine ecu seems to fix it or remap but then no one over there believed me when I said what was happening with the ones I had Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
