I have driven the BMW petrol V8 and I have to admit it was much nicer than my TD6.

One reason I'll stick with my TD6 for a while. |

I have nothing against the diesels especially the TDV8 which my business partner has and is probably 85% to 90% equal on refinement and seems powerful enough for most real world driving. While the mpg is better in the TDV8 (not sure if the same is as true for the older TD6 diesels as most I know only get high teens or low 20s in everyday use) having had 2 diesel SUVs I just wanted a V8 while I still could. The price of a nice TDV8 is nearly twice what I paid for the V8 (albeit TDV8 has to be slightly newer) but I had had enough of big diesel repair bills even without turbos blowing etc... and the higher fuel cost and that difference pays for a lot of unleaded. My weekly fuel cost is roughly the same in my 4.4 V8 as it was in my old 2.5TD Pathfinder. At the end of the day I guess if fuel economy is the most important thing I would have bought a Golf and not any kind of large SUV, diesel or petrol.

I averaged 17.6 over nearly 6000 miles in just over 3 months so a fair bit of motorway for me thats more than acceptable having driven petrol v8's and 12's for the best part of 30 yrs the FF s/c is nearly as comfy as my old Jag. |

In fuel alone if I'd got a petrol and averaged 17mpg vs the avg 29 I get with my TD6 it would've cost me an extra circa £1500 at Swiss prices to cover the 55,000 miles I've done in the 4 years since I've had my car.

A TDV8 of the same year and mileage would have been an awful lot more |
