At what point do FFRR's become worthless or unsaleable?

I saw the SC that Jason pointed out on eBay at £8k with 190,000 miles on it...

I've then tonight seen this TDV8 on Autotrader with 175k on it for £10k...

Looking around, there's quite a few available with over 150k on the clock these days.

I guess there's two ways to look at it...

1. For that SC to get to 190k it's cost upwards of 50k in fuel to get it there, it's probably done motorway miles, is likely to have been well serviced and possibly have had everything that can wear out replaced.

2. It's done a huge mileage and can be a money pit.

I'm not thinking of buy either cars but was wondering what other peoples opinions are.

That's a really good question mate.
I suppose you'd have to judge each motor on its own merits.

It's an area where I think a lot of people have been "duped" in the past by the less professional members of the motor trade into believing that low mileage is always better. Back in the day when it was easier to clock a vehicle, more money could be made this way.

However, as explained above, most hi mileage cars have been operating at optimum speed/temp/time meaning minimum wear on the engine components. Compare that with one that does a couple of miles a day, twice a week. Much more likely to have stressed components, carbon build up and even condensation inside the engine due to cold running.

The bits that would show wear are the interior, exterior etc. however, you can look after these and my 160,000 miler has an interior that belies its age. Most people who see it are staggered that it has done so many miles.

In fact all my cars are now over 120,000 miles (had from new) and are still in good nick mechanically and aesthetically cos they have been looked after. If it's been used as a skip with kids and dogs it wil show!

I realise 92/94,000 miles isn't a whole lot o some of you guys but on a 61 plate 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE it is quite a lot because when I come to sell it I suspect it is going to be up to 120,000+, obviously everything has a price but what would your thoughts on it be in 2/3 years time?

High mileage......Depends how many miles you're going to drive it, and how long you keep it.... Keep it 5 years and do 5k a year and by the time you come to sell it it'll have average mileage.

Or buy it cheap and run it for years, it'll never be worthless. You'll get a couple of thousand regardless of the miles.

I bought my car (08 TDV8) with 113,000 miles on it and my rationale was that a car that was 4 years old at the time I bought it must have done mostly motorway miles, hence my relative security in buying it.

I had the same rationale as alan when buying my disco, it was used as a salesman car for a toy company and had done 50k in 3 years.....

Has to be mostly motorway.

So far has needed new clutch and flywheel....  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Interestingly over the years I have had many cars that ended up well over 100k and my advice would always be buy the newest you can afford with high mileage rather than older with low milage as in my experience it is the electrics that eventually start to just become a nuisance all age related. Also a newer car will usually have a higher spec for instance when I bought mine it had to be 2007 year plus wasn't interested in mileage as it was the interior spec that was important the mechanicals are all fixable

Here in Portugal you just don´t have offer on used L322, and the prices are huge for the miles and years of the cars.

You don't find any L322 used with less than 100k!

And you don´t buy a TDV8 for less than 38.000€ with 150k!!!

And you don´t buy a TD6 for less and 20.000€ even from 2002 is rare!

The worst is to import cars we pay enormous value in taxes , don't worth it!

If i want to import and l322 TDV8 i pay more than 20k only in taxes!

We have many good things here in Portugal, i love to live here, but is other reality! Our economy is  Ex-FULLFATTY now downgraded
