Caravan show NEC

Went to the caravan show at the NEC on Saturday as thinking of getting back into caravanning, was amazed at how much they will knock off the price of a caravan at the show.

We were looking at a Lunar Quasar 524, retails at just short of £17000, got offered it at the show for £13750. That was from my local dealer.

Why would anyone buy a new caravan other than from the show Three things in a blokes life his dog,his car and a Cornish pasty, nothing else matters.

I went on Sunday. We've decided it's an Erterniti for us next, although when we don't know yet!

Noddy

Maybe an Eterniti?

We ordered our second IB4 at the Glasgow show earlier this month, due delivery in July.

I'm always slightly taken aback by how good PremierInn has become. We've used them a reasonable amount in the past 12 months.

The beds are massively comfortable and they're very family friendly.

And the prices you pay are very good indeed.

But I'm rarely satisfied by the food chains they're attached to. OK for a night or two but nothing more.

We stated at the PI in Telford last Thursday whilst my motorhome was being enhanced and the attached Beefeater almost put me off eating. It was food but hardly something to savour. Such a shame as I would gladly pay more for the convenience of a better restaurant. Some PI's have great independent restaurants, such as one near Ipswich, but these are rare.

This is where having a caravan / motorhome scores. Plus you get loads of truly stunning locations.

We took my motorhome, once ready, off to a great site in Bridgnorth where my children could play outside quietly and safely. I cooked supper in my thermal slow cooker early afternoon and enjoyed a relaxed meal with very good wine and single malt for not a lot with no one else around. We could put the children to bed and be close by, too. And not in the same room, either.

Capital cost is one thing, but the freedom a motorhome / caravan affords is rather unique. Si. <This is my name.

Premier inn are not for me I am afraid, I prefer to stay in a nice country inn, I stay away a lot often 3 or 4 times a month and I can stay in a nice 4 star country hotel or Inn, with breakfast included for usually £25 to £30 a night less. Plus the evening meals are always a hell of a lot nicer. Premier Inns are ok if thats your thing, but they are catering for reps and the mass market.

The problem is that country hotels rarely have proper family rooms. My children are too young to leave in separate rooms and there's ALWAYS family rooms available at PI.

However, we use PI for times when we have a late arrival and early departure. Sleep quality is our highest importance and you always know you'll sleep well at PI.

Behind that, we've found Best Western to be pretty good but the consistency isn't there.

I agree, though, that a better overall quality hotel experience is to be had away from PI. Si. <This is my name.

Last year we did 160 nights in the van assuming £60 night for a hotel that would be £9600.

The bar is in the cocktail cabinet at supermarket prices and the restaurant is in the fridge freezer.

Nothing, it will be traded in when the new one is ready.

There were a lot of minor improvements between 2013 and 2014 models and I was made an offer I couldn't refuse so decided to change.

Ian...a friend of mine is also on his 2nd Eterniti...though not through choice, so many faults on his first have meant the factory have accepted it back...the 2nd one is currently back in Widnes awaiting factory inspection Sad Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........
