As has been said if the scratch is pretty shallow it should polish out, but may require some light sanding if deep. Don't sand through the paint though...... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I thought it was plastic also...? It isn't deep, you can't feel the ridge when you run a finger nail over it, but its there! Tempted to try a bit of shoe polish or something to see if that blends it in? |

I don't think it is plastic. Depends where on the car it is precisely. The part that surrounds the climate control is plastic, however the part that surrounds the centre console is wooden veneer, painted than lacquered.
