Figure that now it has had the alternator done and a full fluids swap it should be good this year. Have decided that if it breaks it breaks, i have a good cheap £30 p/h mechanic, who just did the suspension and alternator for me, and im pretty sure there wouldnt be much he couldnt do. It would be more down to the price of parts which are reasonable (bar an engine or box failure)

Its more the diagnostics, if you know what is wrong with them then they are relatively simple to fix.

Gearbox has been serviced and there really havent been too many horror stories about them. There have been a few probs with turbos etc but really not that many so im comfortable with the risk. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Also keep in mind that with Warranty Direct once you hit 90k you will have to fork out 50% of the cost for most parts due to wear and tear/in-betterment so if you have a major failure you will still get a big bill rather than a huge bill. Even with your current mileage you will pay 40% towards parts.

In the end the decision will be yours, personally I looked very closely at a Warranty Direct policy and decided against it. If you do decide to go down the warranty route don't let them know this, keep telling them your leaning towards not taking out a warranty. They will offer you all sorts of discounts as my original quote was the same as yours and they eventually dropped the price and improved the level of cover, so it was approx £650 with no £50 labour charge per hour, think it went over £150 and also enhanced the type of cover to Luxury Level.

I was wondering whether to get gear box serviced, but also read that sometimes it can cause problems to start.

I think its a good idea to get gearbox oil and filter done. Cannot see why fresh oil and a clean oil filter will cause you a problem.

Also consider getting the rear diff oil changed while your at it.

It caused a few problems on higher mileage td6 boxes, but the 6hp26 is a far more robust unit.

I got the local md to swap the oil and filter and p used parts from dan. Smoothed out some of the slightly lumper shifts which we're starting to creep in.

Diff oils are less tricky and can be done at home however the require a fixed quantity of oil to be put in, it is not fill to hole job. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
