Aargh

Just been outside and a shower screen i had leaning on the front of the garage has blown over and put a small 1" crack in the gelcoat on the corner of the rear panel of the caravan.

Anyone know anything about repairs to grp.... I have smeared some silicone over it for now to prevent any water getting in. Feels solid so i suspect it is just gelcoat damage but at least it is sealed up. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Yeah, it's easy enough but a fussy job.

Clean it out thoroughly. If it's gone through to the fibreglass then use a dremel or similar to grind it out and make a fibreglass repair with wet resin and chopped fibres. Leave enough of a groove to apply gel.

If by some unfortunate thing it's cracked all the way through then you need to drill a 3mm hole at each end of the crack to stop it "walking", then repair as above.

If only cosmetic you can do a gelcoat repair straight away. Kits available online or at a decent chandler.

MAIN THING TO REMEMBER. Gelcoat does not air-dry. It must be covered in clingfilm or similar to make it cure. You would do well to read up on this bit, it's a PITA if it goes wrong.

Once cured you can then sand it flat with 1200 wet & dry, then final polish with a rotary buffer or similar.
