In a previous life, I was a tyre fitter (came about through a spell of unemployment) so I fix/ fit my own tyres these days. I have access to a tyre fitting machine and balancer, and pay trade prices for tyres. Still bloody dear for 20"s though! 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded |

There Are good and bad everywhere, but big chain mechanics seem to be some of the worst out there. Every time you go to one of these places it feels as though they're trying to have your pants down.

I agree Hoppy. Went to Kwik Fit with a car for a puncture, was told I need four tyres as they are low on tread. Fronts were two weeks old...

I used my local national tyres and had a fair puncture in one tyre and left it with them for repair. Went back an hour later (as they asked me to ) and they hadn't had a chance to fix it (not a big problem as it takes less than 5mins door to door) so I then went home again and returned an hour later at which point the manager brought the wheel out put it in my boot and when I asked the cost, he said forget it and didn't charge me. So for me, National gave an overall good service (they used to fix my punctures for free years ago and I assumed it was because when you did need a tyre, you would remember them first for what they had done and go to them for it, hence, the free puncture repair generates subsequent income). from experience most nationals do have targets to achieve and these are re-inforced towards the end of the month if they havnt been reached, so if you do have a puncture , go in on the beginning of the month when they arnt under pressure to sell....lol |
