Oh yes, he drove off whilst being issued a roadside ticket, then failed to stop for 15mins.

Story is he did and was told the matter was dealt with so drove on.

As for most newspapers outlets they're all mainly full of Censored . Don't read any papers to be fair. Hard to see why they continue to exist.

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/fe...dow-payout

In 2009, police stopped Whatley for not wearing a seat belt as he drove a range rover near Usk, South Wales.

Whatley was being issued with a fixed penalty notice by police when he drove off. He claimed he thought the officers had finished, and he wanted to get home and take medication for his heart and for a stroke he had suffered.

A police car pursued Whatley as he drove through country lanes for over 15 minutes, with sirens blaring.

Just found this on the web... Ian

All irrelevant if true, Police well outside their remit on this one, payout, if correct, is another example of the slide in our moralities. The boy should have stopped and the police shouldn't of smashed his car, end of. Money just makes it a joke, however if its available then the lower members of our society will take advantage unfortunately that includes the police.. Rant over Very Happy

3 things going on here.

1. Daily Mail sensationalist reporting
2. An old man who was known locally to be a bit of an arse
3. A blatant example of police thuggery which went largely un-punished.

As said above, it's not an easy job. It's not made any easier by idiots like this demonstrating how far into the core the police forces have gone rotten. And the rot set in when Parliament saw fit to measure every imaginable metric regarding their job. It's the same in all walks of life, if you're measured and reported on in your job then your natural instinct is to play to the metrics rather than do the job.

TBH it's no different to Blair's war For oil on terror, MPs expenses or the extensive corruption in local authorities etc etc. Just one more example of what we've all come to expect in daily life sadly.

430k - absolute joke, should have been sacked for totally unnecessary, over the top reaction

In the private sector he wouldn't have got anything other than his P45

This country is completely crazy..... Banging Head 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

It's not over the top. Did you listen to his commentary for 15 minutes? He was hardly in a bad mood. Red mist can descent in a pursuit but I thought this officer kept his cool.

We are trained to strike windows to get people out of vehicles. He'd locked himself in so he was extracted. I think the media and it's readers are getting wound up by the fact that it was an " old age pensioner". He's already failed to stop though- what was to stop him running the officers over? Justified IMO

The officer on the bonnet was a little OTT I thought.

At the end of the day, this officer became a worldwide joke. Banter in the police is relentless and if he is a little weaker than his colleagues then maybe his bosses should have looked after him better. He's put a claim in for constructive dismissal and a court has ruled in his favour. He's been given the equivalent of the remainder of his service salary and if his force had dealt with it, he wouldn't be claiming. I don't think being a public sector worker has anything to do with it. He's obviously found a good lawyer.

The driver should've never driven off IMO. I was amazed that there was no other traffic on the roads.

To be fair to, its also good to see the police getting a payout and not the criminal. Whilst its still a lot of money its nothing compared to some of the payouts i've seen granted to the scum of society.

I still stand by that the whole incident was unnecessary on both sides, it looks to me that the RR driver was deliberately taking the Censored and the officers decided to show him who he's messing with which backfired. Another huge waste of police time all round though! When Dave Courtney is a pensioner I wonder if we feel sorry for him when he's treated like this.... Rolling with laughter
