Whats your view on the P38 becoming really collectable.

I think they will be going up in value in the near future. Look at early discovery 200/300 tdi's. They use to go for £500 now upto £2000. A low mileage v8 p38 autobiography would be a good buy. These cost £90000 upwards in 2000

I'm keeping my D1 v8 for a while!!

As for P38, they look good if they where looked after and I was thinking of buying one a few years ago ( same colour as my FF !) BUT what put me off all the time was the over bored 4.6 v8 and electric's.

If you can fine a top late spec P38 and put it away for a few years, it may go up in price Neutral I would go for something like a 30th or 50th P38 or one of the limited edition's ones. If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

I can't see it happening with the P38. The styling is forgetable and was "of an age". Couple that design flaws admitted by the company (!) and it doesn't bode well . . .

That being said, some of the last ones look very smart. Classic ? I don't think so.

The P38 is an incredibly well built car. As long as the AC still works then it doesn't suffer the famous electrical gremlins, but when it fails everything can go wrong.

The ride is superb, possibly better than the L322 and the build quality is FAR superior, just look at the rusty wheel arches of the L322. You generally don't see rust on any P38.

The Rover V8 had its issues - if abused, but generally its solid as is the gearbox. The same cannot be said for any of the L322 engine/gearbox derivatives.

I'd have a whole collection if I could!

Love my 96' 4.0se. I picked it up for $3,000 last year. One owner with 103,000 miles. Very well kept and always dealer maintained which amazed me when I read the carfax and receipts. Epson green with saddle interior, couldnt go wrong. Replaced the waterpump, bags & compressor and one cracked tailight. One year and 8,000 miles later she is still ticking. Very happy with this vehicle and wouldn't imagine selling it. I've actually been debating tearing it apart at somepoint and doing a full restoration. As it sits now it is in very good condition. No dents or major scratches. I try to keep the p38 in good condition. A wash after every off-road adventure. Thumbs Up

The best colour combination too - an early P38 makes the current line-up look distinctly glitzy.

I once test drove a P38 and it was the biggest anti-climax Sad

I then drove a D2 TD5 and it was a much nicer drive, I ran it for 160k miles without fault Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

I've had eleven RR's to date. Three of them were P38's including an Autobiography. Verdict - worst RR's ever made. I have several cars which some people claim to be "classics", in mine they are just old cars in excellent condition and there are loads more like them out there.

France 2013 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Causeway Grey

I had a P38 4.6HSE which I bought when it was two years old, never had any major problem until after about ten years and 100,000 miles the engine started to take more water than petrol, engines were bored out too much. It needed a new engine, which cost more than the car was worth, so sold it. But the car still looked mint.
My father still has a 4.0 SE which doesn't seem to have the problem, apparently the 4L is more reliable than the 4.6L (less bored out and basically the same engine as the one fitted in the 3.9L Classic).

Im sorry but who ever gave you the info about boring out was incorrect sir... The 4.0 & 4.6 is a 3.9 with a different throw on the crank to give it more CC's

The issue with the Rover V8 from 1993 ish onwards were purely down to production... The factory engines were badly made (out of tolerance) and the replacements "being rushed out due to demand" were even worse and only lasted 50% of the life of a factory engine Shocked shocking they got away with it... Shocked

The bore liners were installed into holes that were out of tolerance. After an un determined amount of time, the liner would slip resulting in failure...

I heard a rummer some years ago RPi were given the remaining stock of engines from Land Rover as it cost more to take them apart, rebore them and install top hat liners then they were worth Shocked
