I've got an updated disk (think it's 2010) but it's method of working out a route still confounds me at times!

The 3 most annoying things :-

1. The "accept" button that you have to press every time to start the car.
2. The fact that ther isn't a "reverse" option to take you back from where you are, to where you started.
3. With reference to 2 above, why does it take you back a different route to the one it brought you?

I agree a TomTom or Garmin is probably better, but the big sucker on the window and cables all over the place put me off. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Gaz, it ain't often I disagree with you but here I really do Fella. This is a car which Royalty, including HM The Queen use. It ought to be the best of the best and it's the cream of the cra.p in terms of the navigation.

The new L405 is almost as bad for many different reasons. The display is cluttered and it's not immediately intuitive what you need to go for when on the move. Also, to update it requires the dealer to replace the hard disk. How bad is that? I've been able to write to a hard disk drive since my first computer, a rare old 8086 IBM PS2. That was in 1989.

Personally if I ever meet the bloke who designed it I would want to take him outside and set him on fire, just to ensure he does no more design work.

All I said is I like it and I do see/use many other systems as well as having a Garmin & a Tom Tom.

I guess I have just got used to it being on 100% of the time. I use it more to judge distance/time to destination than actual directions but its handy when collecting cars from the middle of nowhere!

Anybody that needs SAT NAV as there only means of navigating should think again - buy a map, notice the road signs, use google maps prior to new long journeys, and most all use common sense and that male only thing - sense of direction...

I always thought it was fine til I bought my new car and it makes my touchscreen nav feel a little old fashioned.

I am not sure what the new one is like but the speed of the BMW one is just instant, you write the postcode or place or whatever on the mouse thingy with your finger and the routing choices are displayed instantly with petrol, banks etc and all in beautiful 3d with options to see photos of the destination (god know what for!) but the search is very speedy. Oh and the HUD on the screen is just wonderful!

The weird thing is when you get in the other car for a second you look in the wrong place for the directions or map etc and feel like a numpty til you realise you are staring gormlessly at the bottom of the windscreen!

Whats the newest RR or Disco one like? Any more speedy?

For use in Belgium it's "adequate", biggest difficulty i have is that there seem to be no house numbers loaded. Always ask for the middle of the road which can be kms away from where you really want to be....

Ok... So varied responses
But surely you have to admit that for a car of this price, that you would
expect the sat nav to be equal, if not better than a £150 Tom Tom!
The first l322 rangey I had (4.4 vogue) was bad, but that was in 2003,
this one is equally as bad,if not worse.
Find it hard to believe that if you are building a 70-80k car, that you stick
this c**p in it!

yep i cant agree more,thats why i am sticking with my 2003 4.4 v8 and not upgrading for as long as poss
fitted one of these and put tomtom on it,
