Going to look at a 07 TDV8 Vogue to replace my 52 plate 4.4lpg Vogue my current one is good is the TDV8 going to be noticeably better?

Yep.

I did exactly the same thing a couple of years ago. Fit and finish are miles better and the engine and gearbox are pretty solid. You'll miss the silky smooth motor (I still do and would have bought a 5.0V8S if I could have afforded the fuel) and the gear change can be a little clunky at low speed but that's about it.

With it being a turbo diesel, there's a bit of lag but when it goes, you'll still worry hot hatches. Running costs are almost identical. Go for the lowest mileage you can find.  2021 3.0 P400 Vogue

Well I'm sure others will chip in with their view but if you do a search here and on the RRS forum you will see more.

As I understand it, the TDV8 left turbo has a tendency to seize without the driver knowing. The right turbo works harder to compensate until it fails, which is pretty spectacular and regularly sees the engine ingesting its own turbo. Not good and a seriously expensive repair bill. Messy!!

My personal argument (and justification!) is that diesels today are just too complex with twin turbos, glow plugs, sensitive EGRs, DPFs etc etc. couple that with more expensive servicing and £0.06 per litre extra in fuel and I think the SC with its traditional combustion engine with spark plugs etc. ends up a comparative bargain! SCs are cheap for what they are. Ok, not great if you're selling but a serious amount of car for the money if you're buying. Unless you're doing 25 - 30k plus per annum the OVERALL derv costs just don't stack up,

And anyway, diesels are for lorries and fairground generators. A FFRR should be a V8 petrol by law. You don't have a black and white TV at home just because the licence fee is a but cheaper do you?

Just my 2p worth but if your 4.4 petrol is running fine, hang onto it. it's costing you very little aside from running costs by now.

Fuel costs for my 2004 lpg 4.4 V8 are better than that achieved by a lot of 3.6 drivers (23-28 mpg vs my 27-30?), my gearbox is sound and 2007 vehicles also have a problem with their alternators going bang at some point (so I seem to read.)

Best keep saving for a few more years and get a 4.4 diesel would be my advice.

Yep, a huge argument for not fixing stuff that ain't broke (which I'm personally paying dear for at the moment)

Oh a true a word, petrol is the way forward

If the FF is reliable I would keep her and do a face lift to freshen the look......or go SC  If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

The more I read of the personal experiences of others here on the forum, the more confident I am in my decision to get an AJV8. For the same mileage car, a TDV8 would have cost me 5k more (albeit a little newer). I get 20mpg virtually all the time and the road tax is alot less. At 6k miles, a no brainer for me . . . And very happy with it !

The TDV8 is fantastic, sure it might be slower than the SC but in the real world it's plenty fast enough, besides to my mind hooning about everywhere rather misses the point of a full fat

Despite what's been posted on this thread, in 18+ months on here I am only aware of two people having serious turbo issues with their TDV8 's

Yes, problems seems to be much more common with the Sport, but you're not buying a Sport......

I personally don't believe the TDV8 is anymore likely to fail than any other engine - all the trucks you see on the roads racking up mega miles are powered by turbo diesels.....

There seem to be more threads concerning petrol cars with LPG issues

If money were no object, I'd buy a 5.0 because I would prefer a petrol
