not the hardest repair job

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-Land-Rover-...3cdb6b3bbe

obviously a fresh interior to do, but the dash clocks etc look ok, big question is whether the roof top panel rippled in 'heat' (if any) and would obviously have a slightly lower secondhand value when finished, (cat d) , but for the competent diy'er, not an impossible job, and also, a desirable combo....

cue lots of reasons not to go cat d -but to fix, and then drive yourself, long term, this is a great car one day. and someone will fix it! surely a bit of flexibility with pound notes etc on price. . I'd guess a grand tops on a whole interior from a donor, and plenty of cups of tea.

id defo do a diag. fault find first though.

If that's been on fire you will never get rid of the smell. I know from personal experience having had a minor fire in a car 20 years ago. That's fit only for breaking quite frankly.

I've also read that some of the chemicals that come from a burning vehicle carcinogenic.

That car has been for sale for a while now and has already been reduced from £9,995 already.

Im sorry John but with your sums there, car £9K + £6K-9K = £15-18K an 06 SC starts around £12K so that leaves you £3K to fully repair all of that damage and when you come to sell the car it will be worth 20-30% less as a listed (cat'd) car...

Don't get me wrong, i don't mind cat'd cars. But, that SC should be £4-5K to make it worthwhile my friend...

Just my two penneth worth Thumbs Up

The really dangerous chemicals from a fire will come from the heater matrix ( very bad) but you are right mzplcg the smell will stay for ever regardless of how much you replace. 2008 MY Supercharged

Exactly !! And at 5 grand you'd make the profit from breaking it which would give you the balance to buy a decent one. Smile

England 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

I have had quite a bit to do with salvage over the years and fire damaged cars have a nasty habit of having a major mechanical issue when they are repaired and standing finished, Coincidence !!. I know of two separate people who repaired fire damaged 911 and ended up looking for a motor. Obviously not always the case but worth bearing in mind fire is sometimes an easy way out.
