On my way to work each day there is an underpass for the A303. Since the rains came 3/4 weeks ago, this underpass has been flooded. That said at its worst it has only been no more than 15" deep.

a few years back I was caught in some floods in a Volvo V70 T5. it did well but succumbed when two show offs zoomed by swamping me with their bow waves. I used the starter motor to get me clear of the flood water and waited 20 minutes and then the old girl started up again with no problems then or later. |

Air intakes being too low is a good assumption.

The Peugeot driver was in front of me and didn't go charging in, but possibly went in a bit slowly, but it is not really deep enough for "bow waving", only up to the sills on most cars.

Apparently the BMW recent 3 series has the air intake just behind the radiator and very low. A college of my in Bristol got the same problem and took some water into the engine. End of story for the engine, unfortunate there was no water into the passenger cabin if so he would have got a new car. Now he get a new engine.
