Grease up the locating hole on the slam panel in the meantime, I lashed some on mine , free it off with a big screwdriver to get it moving again, loads of road crap gathers there and seizes up the mechanism, almost shat myself when the bonnet lifted going down a motorway one day.... |

The catch is made of plastic and metal, held together with 2 bent over tabs and a rivet. Unbent the tabs and use a Dremel type tool to remove the rivet. Once the catch is opened the problem can easily seen, rust on the top plate and crap inside the plastic causing it to jam. I wire brushed the top and bottom plates and gave them a coat of paint, cleaned out the plastic parts and reassembled with a light coating of grease, the rivet was not able to be reused so I fitted a round head bolt and a lock-nut instead and hammered the bottom of the bolt once assembled to ensure it would not work loose. You have to make sure the top of the bolt is lower than the metal plate or it will foul on the slam-panel. |
