Britpart Parts

Another rant about Censored part, sorry, Britpart parts.

Our 1998 P38 needed it's exhaust changed and after having problems with after market exhausts I thought I'd try and price a genuine LR one. Not surprising the cost of it was going to be around £900. Surprisingly though it's no longer manufactured and can't be bought from Land Rover.

In the end I decided to buy the exhaust from Island 4x4. They were selling AllMakes 4x4 rear sections which have fitted nicely and line up perfectly when compared with the existing rear sections. When trying to fit the centre section (the Britpart section) the flange is at completely the wrong angle for the rear pipes. Having compared it with the old centre section the flange is indeed at the wrong angle.

I should have known better as I've had horrible problems with Britpart stuff before, brake caliper seals that wouldn't fit, polybush kit for our Freelander V6 that was useless, etc. etc. I'm annoyed at myself as I swore I'd never buy Britpart again but as it was all Island 4x4 stocked I wasn't left with much choice.

Does everyone have these problems with Britpart? How do they get away with producing so much Censored !?

I must have been very lucky with all the parts I bought for my 300tdi that were britpart as they were all fine. But reading a lot of bad stories on here abouth them.

I've used Britpart for the Defender and not been impressed.

On a previous RR I bought Britpart brake discs, totally regretted it, they would never balance correctly and gave vibration through the car, ended up replacing with genuine. Discovery 4 HSE

Put simply. Avoid!

False economy. You'll end up replacing the utter crap they sell.

A friend of mine who ought to know better (but repeatedly proves he doesn't Rolling Eyes ) has just fitted new swivels to his 90. Bought from a well-known LR parts supplier, he didn't specify the make and bought on price. Britpart. They have a stamp on them that, in Chinese, reads 'Reject'.

They don't fit properly and are junk right out of the box. The ones he replaced, after a mere 5 years service, were also Britpart. Si. <This is my name.

I can't understand how you can be so negative about them.................read below what it says at the top of their website page..................

"Britpart is the leading independent wholesaler of parts and accessories for Land Rover vehicles, supplying in excess of 800 customers worldwide from government agencies to trade outlets.

The name ‘Britpart' is synonymous with quality parts for Land Rovers and the company has earned a truly enviable reputation around the globe. For over the past 30 years, Land Rover enthusiasts the world over have come to identify Britpart as a brand to be trusted"

I mean - surely it's true isn't it???? After all I did read it on their website............ Laughing

Well after an afternoon in the workshop we cut the pipe and spread the angle of the flange that meets the back box. it wasn't just a little bit out...

We then cut a gusset from a piece of steel and welded it all back up.

It wasn't perfect fit but it's not blowing and is gas tight now so should be fine for a while hopefully. Just really hacks me off that you can't buy parts that will just fit without any hassle. A job that should have taken about half an hour ended up taking up a whole afternoon.

I rang LR and asked them for an exhaust for it and they quoted in the region of £900 before telling me that it was no longer available from the factory and there was zero stock of it so unfortunately after market or stainless was the only option. The local stainless place in Kilbirnie who are supposed to be fantastic said it'd be almost March before they could do it so after market won unfortunately.

Whilst doing the exhaust I had it running for half an hour to warm the oil up before changing it. I'd forgotten how nice the Rover V8 is when there's nothing behind the cats. It was up on the ramp in the workshop and you could see it popping flames out of the cats Laughing
