Battery volts low

So been having a few probs with low batt warnings on my rr, latest I think is the dsp playing up, bought one of the voltage checkers, [as suggested by nicedayforit cheers] and plugged it in yesterday, battery was showing 12.1-12.2v, and when I started it, it went to 14.2/3v, so I will put it down to mainly short runs, and I have only done about 400 miles this month, its not the daily driver/ family school run car, [wife just changed her saab aero for a nearly new mondeo titainium 1.6 tdci ecobollocks, £30 per yer to tax and 45-60 mpg], so I have just put it on charge with my optimate, to see if I can make it last just a bit longer, as I still have a few things I want to get to get done and getting a new battery wasn't on the list lol, lets hope this will recover the battery a bit, it has a Unipart battery in at the mo, but will replace with a bosch if and when it needs one, I have connected direct to the battery terminals without disconncecting it, im pretty sure this is ok????

Hi Hammie,

I have had similar issues for the past few months, with it gradually getting worse and more and more errors showing when I startup and switch off.
The battery eventually died on Wednesday, fitted a new Bosch, and no errors at all now Smile

Cheers

You know it's going to let you down at the most inconvenient time / place !

I hope you have a good set of jump leads & don't park anywhere remote...

Fortunately I have a Clarke 12/24v jump start battery pack, which I ended up carrying around with me.
The last week before it finally died, I had to use the pack each time I started the car. Sad
Like Alistair said, make sure you have some decent jump leads or carry a battery pack like I did.

luckily I can pick and choose when I use it, afraid to say it spends quite a lot of time on the drive at the moment, but being retired, I don't need it to be ready to go at any time, I will give the battery a charge, [although its never failed to start, or show signs of struggling] and see how it goes, have the AA if worst case happens, I think maybe I can get away with a charge up, watch this space lol 2003 ffrr v8 vogue
