Surely given the purchase price of the L405, the additional cost of this is negligible by comparison? |

I would never describe £1000 as negligible. Even £500 for four pieces of plastic concerns me. |

As we are enthusiasts (some would say spods) we are all about the details, and if you look at the L322 model, the designers change these little aspects to keep things fresh, and attract buyers. The L405 is no different with all the MY changes.

In 1999 my mother bought a new BMW and 'even then' paid £500 for some minor colour coding for the main dealer to do before collecting the car. The sales person told her she was wasting her money but the customer wanted it and that was that! |

On a related note, my Vogue is due for build next week and there is no option to upgrade the front grille so it will come with the darker shade finish. It's a santorini black exterior so I wanted the chrome finish on the VSE / AB.
