yes, my posts refer to it shorting to earth ie in contact with earth, like its beem squashed under a screw or something, i just wanted this to be known, before you go spending money on a part etc. from my amateur detective work here, i see you have this problem since PCV overhaul, and now you have an ECU fault! possible, and no doubt if so, was caused by something? maybe a direct short. (remedy first before spending!) test both wires to earth and wobble loom in affeced areas. if you are sure of this, no need to 'piece out' loom with temp wires. and lastly, it runs ok on 7 cylinders, when injector1 disconnected? but still smokes a lot? i cant see you unsmoking it with a new ecu. but that's my hunch. car will tick over ok on 7, just feel sluggish on revving, and no need to revv it! did you remove inlet manifold???its possible its signalling the ecu to shut down one or more plugs. -this is a guess. i remember older bmw engines could do this. (v12 could run on 6 etc) maybe check over at friendly 7 series forums with m62 and m62tu44 engined cars for similar maladies. your lambas are getting beaten up with this smoke, and maybe trying to save you. keep posting. merry xmas! |

The PCV was changed after this problem started. I had and idea it was either that or the MAF. But neither made any difference. After checking all the hoses and connections, that was my Unmetered air theory out the window.

that post makes it all sound much clearer. it would indeed sound like the permanent open injector is at fault from a stuck pulse etc. have you checked with a dismantler for a second hand ecm? |

I can get one for £200 but they need coding to the BCM something to do with the immobiliser.

in that case, don't lock your car without it in the vehicle, as mentioned earlier!
