iPhone 4S unlock

Anyone know of a cheap site that does unlocking? Orange want £20 but I've found a site this morning that does them for £7.99. I don't think I'll get it any cheaper unless anyone knows different?

Make sure they guarantee that it will continue to be unlocked following any future iOS software upgrades.

As Alistair says...

Often the cheap unlocks lock after a software update.

Pay £20.00 via orange would be my recommendation

Does the Union Jack in my profile not give any clues? Whistle

Either way, that site doesn't cover my network but thanks for helping.

The only way for an Iphone to be unlocked (4S, 5, 5C & 5S) is by the imei number been removed from the locked list on the Apple servers, then when you plug it iTunes and iTunes checks the imei number against the database it will recognise their is no simlock and allow any sim to work.

The only way to remove the number from the database is at the request of a network operator. The way the 7.99 sites work is they will know someone who works in the operator and is not adverse to getting a brown envelope in return for slipping some extra numbers through the system. This works but they have to rely on that person been at work and also them been able to slip the number through the system without anyone noticing. The operators have realised this is what has been going on and tightened up on the procedure to submit imei numbers to the Apple servers making it harder for these "rogue" employees to put numbers through which is why these sites often don't work.

My advice would be to pay the £20 to Orange and get the unlock done properly

And that's exactly what I've done. It takes 2 to 3 weeks apparently so I can't port my number to the cheaper 3 sim till it's done.

UPDATE

I've just called Orange/EE who inform me that they've unlocked my handset free of charge as I've been with them so long. Pleased, but annoyed at the same time as I'd topped up my phone last week to pay for the unlock!

I then asked if I could port my number to my 3 SIM and they said I could, but then my EE account would close and I'd lose my credit. I can however, transfer my credit to another Orange PAYG customer.

Does anyone want £22.70 of credit? PM me and I'll sort it. Call it £20 in a vain attempt to recoup some of my costs!

As posted the only correct unlocking process is though the original supplying network operator. This process can attract a fee dependant on your length of contract remaining and/or monthly spend.
But please note.....if you have say purchased a used iPhone 5, that is locked to say EE network and you as the second owner contact them asking for the unlock.....they won't unlock it.....even for a fee!
